Time to drop mckenna?

Not so much of "Drop Him" but rest him for a couple of games, he isnt getting any younger and the way Forest have played in recent times..fast and attacking, he needs a rest and he will come back ready to fight again.

tbh he wasnt great against qpr either it was just the fact we picked up a good win that varnished over this.

but it apears billy would rather drop raddy as hes lost his head (but has been our only genuine threat in recent games) so I aint got a clue whats going on now.

where looseing games, our players are looseing there heads, our manager is having public strops again wtf has happend behind the scenes.

Yes.

Thought he was blowing for the last half hour or so, as he has been in the last few games.

More disappointing was Lewis, who strutted around like he owned the place, and failed to make any impact.

That's Lewis all over (sadly). He's more effective as an impact sub, I think.

McKenna is in desperate need of a rest, he's played 90 minutes in pretty much every single game this season.

The reason we wanted to sign Pratley was so we could rotate him and McKenna imo_Obviously it didn't happen,I wonder if we should gamble with Maj and the Moose for next game seeing as we are at home and put McKenna back in next away game.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

If we drop Mckenna then we have no midfield.

Agreed. I don't know if anyone has picked up on this but all four of the games we've lost recently have been 1-0 losses away from home.

A 1-0 loss away isn't a disgrace under any circumstances and even though McKenna hasn't been tip top recently I attribute us not receiving a spanking all season largely down to him. Even on a bad day his experience and bottle is far more valuable than the equivalent midfield of an off colour McGugan mincing around next to the clumsy Moussi.

Moussi clumbsy? He has never given the ball away as many times as Mckenna today - he was shockingly poor, even defensively he was totally bossed by Stock.

WTF are you talking about pal, a fookin defeat weather it be 1 nil or 5 nil is a defeat end of and it is a disgrace for a club challenging for promotion to play consistantly so bad away from home

17 away matches 4 wins 4 defeats( 3 in last 4 games) and 9 draws and most of those draws we were very lucky to get a point from, point is away from home we are pants ( bar a few games)and play like school boys against men and it is pathetic to watch sometimes.

We are at a stage in the season where we need to push on to the next level Tuesday and saturday are massive games now because we have not reacted very well to a defeat.

He needs a rest, but he is our midfield composure. It's a conundrum.

McKenna needs resting. Whilst he is playing the way he is at the moment, he doesn't really benefit us greatly. Moussi can do a similar job in his absence anyway.

Calm yourself down grandad, I was only voicing my opinion.

I happen to believe that Paul McKenna is an exceptional player, right? I know full well that he's not been at his best the last few weeks, but I also happen to believe we'd still be a lot worse off without him in the team. He's a leader and his influence is invaluable and I don't think removing him from the side would help. Moussi has shown flashes of brilliance amidst plenty of mediocrity but I certainly wouldn't want him taking over the role of marshalling the midfield.

If Mckenna is genuinely tired or injured then that's a different matter, rest him by all means. But from a football point of view I can't believe he drops so far in some people's estimation in a few short weeks. I have no idea what relevance your assesment of our away form has on this matter.

There's a considerable weakness in your argument there. A loss is a loss, whether it be 1-0, 3-0, or even 10-0. The fact that we've now lost three of our last four games means that we've effectively lost nine points out of a possible twelve. If we'd dropped McKenna for one match and lost that match comprehensively, we'd still have only lost three points and could have had him refreshed to resume his duties convincingly as our midfield general for the following game.

Therefore, to illustrate my point further, I'd rather have rested him for Coventry and seen us lose 4-0 and have possibly drawn or even won today's game than have lost both matches 1-0. The former results in either one or three points from a possible six, whilst the latter has resulted in zero.

Yes, drop him.

He should have been rested in all the cup games this year. Thats Billys fault though.

His passing was shocking today as it has been for the past few games. If he's not passing sensibly then he's not really doing anything as he isnt in anyway creative.

he has seemed to bottle it the last few games. Just seems to crack it in any direction first time all of a sudden instead of getting stuck in and mixing it up. The only thing is I dont think we have anyone to replace him in that position. The easy choice is Moussi I suppose but he hasnt looked very handy at all in the last few games and I dont think Billy wants him to play as a traditional defensive midfielder he wants him as a box to box Viera type defensive midfielder. Perch would be a possibility but where do we go for a left back then? Cohen? I think he now gives way to much in Midfield to play him as a left back even though he doesnt do a bad job at left back anyway. I guess though this is the dilemma Billy faces every week when it comes to picking the team and this is just one of about a million dilemmas we have.

I wouldnt say he's bottled it. If you watch him he tells the defenders to hit it long. so obviously these are instructions he's had. This even happens at home. I find this worrying.
Its amazing how it takes weeks to build up confidence and then just one match to obliterate it (Derby). Although you could say we had that coming.

Although you make good points about our positional frailties, we clearly need some loan signings if we are "serious about promotion".

why drop 1 of our better players this season? if we had someone just as good to replace him for half match or 1-2 games maybe give him rest but he'll get us back to winning ways soon.

McKenna has had a few bad games of late and it shows in the team, he seems to make the team tick and when he playes well the team playes well. Just a blip we hope.
