Neither of those places will be in the new Greater Nottingham authority thoughWorksop is in Notts but has its own dialling code, and a Sheffield postcode. Other areas near Retford are closer to Doncaster than anything else.

You must have a very easy life if you find that 'bloody annoying'Several villages in South Notts, which will be part of the expanded Nottingham city, have LE postcodes and Loughborough or Melton Mowbray in their official postal address. It may be an expedient for mail sorting, but it's bloody annoying when all your official documents, utility bills etc. appear to place you somewhere you don't really live and don't affiliate to.
I wasn't going to join in- but now I will. I live in a village between Sheffield and Rotherham. Sheffield post-code (but tbf ALL of Rotherham has an 'S'). 0114-Sheffield phone number BUT we pay Council tax to Rotherham. I swear I can't cope, I'm going to burn the f@cking house down- that'll show 'em.You must have a very easy life if you find that 'bloody annoying'![]()

I’ve never understood how you cannot get a direct train from Nottingham to Retford when they’re in the same county, you have to change at either Newark or Worksop.Worksop is in Notts but has its own dialling code, and a Sheffield postcode. .. and changing at Newark often involves a walk across the town centre between the two stations.I’ve never understood how you cannot get a direct train from Nottingham to Retford when they’re in the same county, you have to change at either Newark or Worksop.
And Derby was the historic "railway town" of the East Midlands... and changing at Newark often involves a walk across the town centre between the two stations.
Nottm - for a big city - is actually not particularly good railway speaking. There's the line out to Newark and Lincoln and a few others but the main lines go up the East and West coasts - Newark - Retford etc will be on the ECML which largely follows the historic route of the A1
It's pronounced "Thwaite"
Friday evening overnight train - no seats, little sleep. It was interesting going through Dawlish Warren at 3.00am when the tide was high. And Derby was the historic "railway town" of the East Midlands.
To get to Cornwall you used to have to get the Nottingham to Derby train, change at Derby and get the Cornishman for one of those great railway journeys, before changing at St Erth for St Ives.
Me and my mates used to love the summer holidays when we would all head for St Ives
Closing the Great Central Mainline between Nottingham Victoria and London (Marylebone) was the worst decision for Nottingham... and changing at Newark often involves a walk across the town centre between the two stations.

Train journey down there dreaming of meeting a bird with a great big massive bush. And Derby was the historic "railway town" of the East Midlands.

I’m in Swadlincote and I see more and more young Forest fans as we continue in the premier league. It’s why I think the new stadium development is so important. Whilst I’m born in Nottingham life has meant I moved away. Not that far though. And the city is a big pull over leicester and derby in many ways in terms laves like south DerbyshireHere in Burton we have a Derby postcode, Tamworth has a Birmingham postcode. They mean absolutely nothing apart from where the old major postal hubs were.
