The worst thing is, after 911 pages, 22.700 posts, seven years....

...still absolutely nothing has changed at the WFCG, apart from chucking up a bunch of shipping containers in one corner, and a couple of big televisions.

The food and drink offerings are still something that would shame a gulag jailer, the service is appalling, and - worst of all - you still can't get a decent cup of coffee.
And the bogs don't work

It seems to me they are genuinely doing proper fixes for once.

They have resurfaced several roads on my commute into Nottingham over the past few weeks, but what I don't understand is why they did almost nothing all winter & have decided to do them now?

If we neglect roads for a year to resurface them all properly, it is definitely worth it. Let's see what it is like next winter if they spend all summer doing proper resurfacing jobs.
They always do resurfacing this time of year with the remainder of the budget before the next financial year

The biggest issue with the WFCG is access and egress. Always has been and always will be. The traffic issues in WB and Lady Bay whenever there is a match (or any event) are significant and whilst the nimby mentality is alive and well in those areas, if emergency vehicles can't get through, let alone cares providing continuing care at home for the terminally ill, then solutions are needed. It is not acceptable to ignore these things, politically and otherwise, and so they will not be ignored.

The current discussion points though are about how long to close parts of the bridges. There are not enough river crossings in Nottm, and other than political nonsense the geology means that building crossings is expensive. So, close a third or half of the traffic lanes on TB after a game helps pedestrians, aids safety, but backs the traffic up to north of Victoria. Closing Lady Bay works OK, some moans but it's not too bad. if you close TB as well, there will be an issue.

Options: improved pedestrian access on both sides of LB bridge? Who pays for that? How long will the permissions take?

Improve the Trentside path and get folks on the west side of TB and on to the Suspension Bridge?" In the plans. Should be fine although when the river is in flood there will be issues, but those issues could theoretically be fixed.

Fanciful suggestions corner: Another bridge? Where will it 'land' city side? Ferry service? Not realistic, would only work when Forst are playing (plus perhaps a Test match at the cricket ground and other 'events' at the WFCG). It would also fail when the Trent is in flood.

I'll put my tin hat on and point out that I discussed these issues at the very top of this thread, all those years ago.

The owner is committed to staying at the WFCG, the spiritual 'home', the place with football soul etc. Financially it would have been easier to move, and it probably would be done and dusted by now, but that is academic because the guy that owns the football club wants to stay where we are. It's his club, his money, his decision. I can't say it any louder and clearer, the owner and the Board are united in a desire to get this done. If it takes another year or two, then it does.

I can safely say that Forest have already done a lot to improve access and egress and have planned for further improvements (getting out of Pavilion Rd to Radcliffe Rd and so on). There's a lot more in the pipeline including access to LB Bridge, the Colwick Rd, and so on. It's not the owners decision though on whether the bridges can be closed and for how long, and so we are where we are.

As I said, its will take some time but it is a work in progress. County, City and Rushcliffe have slightly different positions on the matter but where they are now joining up is that they all want Forest to prosper and the stadium to be developed. the benefits to the area are huge, economically and in many other ways. It has not always been the case that the local authorities were joined up in their thinking and approach, but the council that was most resistant is now generally on board, albeit with major headaches to overcome. Local MP's are aligned, even the Police and the transport authorities / companies are involved in the debate, which is all good news.

Is there a Plan B? The Greeks are canny in business so there has to be, but everything is focussed on the WFCG and I reckon the momentum is so great that solutions will be found, however unpalatable to some.
Do you ever get the feeling that you're repeating yourself?

And please don't take that the wrong way - it's good to read posts with some insight.

The state of the roads round Beeston/Chilwell way are nothing short of a disgrace at the moment. There's at least two roads I drive down on the regular within 3 minutes of my house than I have to crawl over because even hitting them at 20mph is going to take the wheels off.
Queens Road West is an absolute disgrace - potholes aplenty. As soon as you cross into Long Eaton; smooth roads. Derbyshire roads in a noticibly better state.

I agree-it’s been a proud part of Nottingham’s history that we have supported two football league clubs for the vast majority of the many years since the competition began.
From my observation over many decades Norman, that's a view which is largely not shared. Many saddies will barely acknowledge our existence let alone celebrate it. In fact, your perfectly reasonable comment would be regarded as being condescending towards them.

I've always been more-than-happy to reciprocate their contempt for us.

I love condescending them, it's a sport.

Some of the reactions I've had have been absolutely priceless.

"Like a little brother" is always a great introduction into the hobby, it gets such an over the top response, it drives you onto bigger and better things.

"Jimmy Sirrel modelled himself on Cloughy" is degree level stuff

They might be using up the remaining funds in budgets as we approach the end of the financial year?

What a pity they put that much vaunted new pedestrian bridge in a place that doesn't really serve that many people.

Back of the Trent End to Turney's Quay would have been MASSIVELY more useful
A bridge from the back of the TE would be great, but even if the money was to be invested (by who?) there's nowhere for it to go other than the already congested corner by Turney's Quay or the canal towpath. It's a pity that Forest didn't buy the development site directly opposite when it was for sale.

Planning considerations also come into it, and in the case of a bridge, the cops would have a lot to say about it.

It's good to see resurfacing happening, and hopefully a 'proper job' this time. Everyone heading east be aware, Radcliffe Road just before Gamston bridge is terrible, really terrible.

And don't mention the queues for the toilets, especially for girls.

Maybe Mr Marinakis can use some of his spare ships to form a temporary bridge on matchdays? - Closing the Trent to boat traffic will have a lower impact than closing the road bridges.

Why cant they widen LB Bridge on both sides you could put a cantilever out for pedestrian traffic. The main bridge may need additional structural work - but it can be done. They have done very similar over the AP7 in Spain @ Villamartin where previously there was no pedestrian access and you had to walk on the side of the carriageway. I will be there over Easter and will take a photo and send it to the club

They need a pedestrian bridge that links back of Trent End to Meadow Lane (the road) - running up alongside the 200 degrees roastery.

Having the two grounds linked like doesn't just give better access/egress potential for match days but also allows community type events where both grounds are open and people can move between them. My personal recommendation would be UK's largest beer festival ...

Getting back to the City after the match is limited to two choices.

Trent Bridge....so very congested and dangerous at times.

Lady Bay Bridge.....less congested but only because they stop the traffic.

I was thinking of a pontoon bridge yesterday made from boats. I had't realised though that the Trent was so shallow around Trent Bridge - just under a metre to just short of 3 metres at it's deepest in normal flow.

We might have to borrow some canoes or kayaks for the edges from the rowing club. ;)

Can we chuck enough away supporters into the Trent to walk over them to the other side?

Try being at the bottom of the steps by Lady Bay Bridge in the dark when it's been raining :ROFLMAO:
Reminds me of penguins in Antarctica, all shuffling together.
