Colin Addison
First Team Squad
Sorry only just read Dino's post.
It was Colin. "Aussie white wine" was how it was more commonly known, and it was a f*cking lethal brew. The first time I got pissed on it was the last.Didn’t it used to be called Australian wine?
Plenty of games made it to general sale and had tickets available until the day before the match.Re stadium capacity ... kids, women, tourists, others, there are people who want to see a game but can't get a ticket. Create the capacity, create the facilities, they will come. it can't be an old boys club, effing and blinding and pissing up the wall and all that, the world has changed (not always for the better I agree, but it has changed).
Described pretty much as I remember it OtisIt was Colin. "Aussie white wine" was how it was more commonly known, and it was a f*cking lethal brew. The first time I got pissed on it was the last.
As for Yates' Wine Lodge itself, it could be like a wild west saloon bar on a Friday and Saturday night in the sixties when I first started going in - all whilst a Victorian Palm Court trio carried on playing classical tunes at the entrance to the balcony upstairs. It also had a steak restaurant in the basement, The Talbot, at that time, and which was actually pretty good.
I expect you'll also remember back then that legendary cop, Tug Wilson, was virtually the unofficial bouncer at Yates', given the amount of time he seemed to spend in there at weekends sorting out various miscreants. Conveniently, Tug's 'office', a blue police box stood immediately outside.Described pretty much as I remember it Otis
Yes I remember him well but managed to keep on his good side. There were always plenty of gobshites in there to keep him occupied.I expect you'll also remember back then that legendary cop, Tug Wilson, was virtually the unofficial bouncer at Yates', given the amount of time he seemed to spend in there at weekends sorting out various miscreants. OK to that but others will come if the facilities are better than they are. Other places are as bad, the Arena for a start!Plenty of games made it to general sale and had tickets available until the day before the match.
As someone who goes to games with my wife and stand in A block, this attitude that women are somehow not welcomed at football is an absolute nonsense. It isn't like going to the theatre I grant you but it is a safe, welcoming environment and thinking about, access to toilets is no worse than it is at The Playhouse for women either.
It's football, join in and stop trying to make it into something that it isn't.
Absolutely. I always thought that in the 60s and 70s you got a total cross section of humanity in Yates'. From Business men to Business ladies if you know what I mean. My mate wobbled up to the "band" one Saturday night and asked if they'd play Honky Tonk Women. They didn't!! Great days in the best town in the worldIt was Colin. Your mate would have got more joy had he asked for a tune by Stravinsky as opposed to something by the Stones. You're spot-on about the diverse clientèle.Absolutely. I wrote on the match thread about this, but to me it was “ok” today, not quite what we’d expect from a Man U game. I do agree it’s getting quieter (both home and away, with a disclaimer on the away games that I only go to around half of them), but some big games, game jeopardy, decent playing team effort and great songs will help. We are pretty much the same people in the ground that were there in 2022 and 2023 when it was proper loud.I've only been watching this and it may have been better in the ground but i think the premier league rot has set in with the fans. You could hear a pin drop for a good chunk of the game, the performance deserved more than that.
I am guessing container corner bumped that up, it looked fairly full30,778. Highest attendance this century and possibly the highest since the BE and TE were redeveloped in the 90s?
Agree. Atmos better than it's been a while - but not where it's been.I wrote on the match thread about this, but to me it was “ok” today, not quite what we’d expect from a Man U game. It’s still great to see 30,000+ crowds though isn’t it!
Hasn’t somebody posted that a couple of cars were parked near the bridge on Trentside?Anyone have any idea what caused the exceptionally slow egress along Trentside to Trent Bridge last night? Never known it that slow ?!
2 cars parked at the top by the bollards .Anyone have any idea what caused the exceptionally slow egress along Trentside to Trent Bridge last night? Never known it that slow ?!
Key the fukcers, they won't park there again.2 cars parked at the top by the bollards .
Absolutely I was abit shocked and underwhelmed considering it was Man United, hopefully Dyche and the squad can help bring back the spark in timeI've only been watching this and it may have been better in the ground but i think the premier league rot has set in with the fans. The whole egress on that side is dangerous - even more so since they’ve stopped the lower Trent End from exiting through the players car park.Anyone have any idea what caused the exceptionally slow egress along Trentside to Trent Bridge last night? Never known it that slow ?!
Agreed took ages to get up the steps onto the bridge. Needs way better lighting as well, one of the old boys had tripped and was being helped out at the top of the steps. It was very congested leaving the LBC onto Lady Bay Bridge too.
The increased capacity will need exit planning as well as the car parking provision.
Thankfully the away fans were not allowed out the same was, or at least not until after the home fans had made their way out.
As for traffic chaos: why are buses still routed down Trent Boulevard on match days?
And the exit of cars from the rugby club parking coupled with a a stream of vehicles heading up Trent boulevard to the traffic lights, and the reluctance of many drivers to allow merge in turn for joiners meant that the whole junction was log-jammed.
Still, no cars could get down Trent Boulevard becaus a bus was caught up in it all, so even by the time we got back to our car, parked down the Adbolton end of the boulevard the road was still quite empty, and we had the easiest exit from there I can remember for some time.
