The Transfer Panel

The Transfer Panel is much blamed for Forest lack of defenders. And so it should be.

However, people would argue that this is the same committee that managed to sign 9 new players in the close season! But if we look closer at that we can see that not too much has been done.

5 of the new signings were loan signings from last year (loan signings that were only brought in after much huffing and puffing) so it would have been much easier to do a deal as the two clubs would have been in contact and we would assume that the players would want to come to Forest.

McKenna and McGoldrick seem to take forever to finalise. I would presume it was only because of Davies (in McKenna case) and moving to Nottingham (in McGoldrick's case) that meant the players weren't snatched from us. Much in the same way that Mills, Barker and Fox were (again due to huffing and puffing).

Adebola was a free agent and no fee had to be arranged making it much easier.

Madjeski(sp? sorry itl take a few months to get used to that one!) is the only one I can give credit for. Although I would imagine he wouldn't have been on many clubs radars for them to take him up, which is a credit to our scouting.

Now, it is the same panel that is restricting us from signing some new defenders. We need defenders whether we have a full squad or not. it has been our weakest position since the play off days.

For the life of me I can't understand why Billy cant do the deals. I genuinely would like someone to explain the use of the panel. As mentioned on Radio Nottm, West Brom have a defender injured against us and replace him within days with a loan signing from Chelsea. From my understanding they have a similar system to us with signing players. That just makes our situation more embarrassing.

I feel so sorry for billy having to come and make excuses for the upstairs lot every week.

Seriously, it can't be THIS hard to sign players!!

Billy said we won't sign players for the sake of it...

I can't help but think that signing any defensive player would be a godsend at the moment. Am also slightly baffled of the need for six strikers. McGoldrick isn't going to get much of a look in - signing a player for the sake of it?

For some strange reason everyone seems to have forgotten that we need a proper left winger, although Tyson is doing minute. So for that reason it is justified having the amount of strikers we have. Seen as tyson is on the left and McGoldrick can play in a few positions.

You have to remember that the player might not want to come to this club.

It works three ways, us, the other club and the player.

If one of them is unwilling, it makes the whole thing f**ked up.

We also need a left back.

We've had since last year to sort it out.

Are you telling me Rob Jones wanted to go to Scunny over Forest? What the f*** happened there!!? Unless Billy suddenly decided he didn't rate him.

I think the "panel" know what we need, the problem is that Billy has identified targets (and presumably on the radio he meant Barker and Mills) but whatever reasons, we've not been able to secure them.

The problem now is it is "back to square one", with seemingly Billy having to look for new targets.

It's great fun having all these strikers, but (sorry!) Earnie looked woeful tonight, Dexter did OK, Dele did alright when he came on, McGoldrick didn't do much and poor old Joe Garner didn't get a kick. Nathan Tyson had Watford's right-back where he wanted him, but we didn't make the most of that 'channel'.

A former manager of ours once said he always built his teams from the back; I can't help kind of wishing our current manager had taken a leaf out of his book and done the same in the summer - yes we needed more forwards, but we need defenders more; and if that meant we brought in a couple of decent defenders (in addition to Chris Gunter of course) and bullied teams the way we seem to get bullied) I'd have been all for it, even if it meant we didn't have all the "super six" (or whatever they're called).
