I think that's been proved to be the case with more than a few top players who go into management with lower level clubs and adapting to working with players of a poorer quality than they're used to, and discovering that having the appropriate badges is just the start. David Platt certainly gave me that impression when he was here; saying all the right things but having neither the patience and/or communication skills to see it through.
Bobby Charlton is perhaps the best example I can think of,Otis-a superb player but didn’t prove a success as a
manager whereas brother Jackie seemed cut out for the role.

That's probably the prime example Cloughie. In stark contrast to Ferguson who was the stereotypical journeyman centre-forward.

Jack Charlton was brilliant for Wednesday.

Before he got the job he watched a game sat amongst the fans in the North Stand.

He arrived when we were a third division team and took us to the top end of Division Two before Wilko got us promoted in 84. Im sure you’ll remember that our first game back was a 3-1 win against Forest at Hillsborough.

As for Jack, he’d often pop into training, say hello, give someone a bollocking and then leave it with his assistant Maurice Setters before going fishing.

Brilliant character, and like Cloughie, a product of the North East. Both men were brilliant for English football. I miss the genuine icons of those days.

As for Coventry, I’m not as surprised as most that Robins has gone.

The cup run they had last season masked the league form during the calendar year, when it’s certainly been very poor.

They lost O’Hare, Hamer and Gyokores, but good money has been spent on the likes of Simms and Haji Wright.

Our bloke has to make do with free transfers and has managed to form a moderate Championship level in 12 months.

Robins did a brilliant job with Coventry, but I think he reached his ceiling. Sometimes change is a good thing, unless of course they appoint solely on ‘name’ such as Lampard.

Just when Plymouth are at an important stage in the season to build up some confidence leading up to Christmas, Wayne's wife Coleen decides to go on to the tv show 'I'm a Celebrity, Get me out of here'.

I've seen Wayne doing interviews during the day about his wife being on the TV show, which must be distracting. If I was one of his players, I'd be thinking 'What the hell? How can I connect with this multi-millionaire manager who's more focused on his celebrity lifestyle?'. He talks about his players making errors, but he did the same himself on and off the pitch and he's still making errors that are so avoidable now.

Time to look in the mirror, Wayne. If you're capable.

Lampard is probably okay in the Championship, he just wasn't a Premier League level manager

He is far better than Rooney who has done a shit job absolutely everywhere he has managed

Using my NowTV subscription to watch Sheff U v Sunderland - boring Championship stuff, penalty saved and both sides down to ten.

Seriously, good football match. Sunderland look very promising. Robinson on a yellow after conceding the penalty.

Sheffield United being top whilst weakening their squad from relegation should be extremely encouraging to every Premier League team

I’d love Wednesday to have another crack in the Premier League, but unless someone with extremely deep pockets and far greater business acumen than the charlatan we’ve got, the club would most likely cripple itself doing so.

The journey is better than the destination these days. United fans will testify as much.
