I think you overestimate the strength of those sides and underestimate our ability to raise our own game to pick up points against them
We are 17th, if the lucky win vs West Ham had gone their way we'd be level with them and bricking it. We might be on a half decent run at the moment but just lost Sels and Williams for a few games. They were 2 up away to Chelsea yesterday as well.

Things aren't as rosy as the 6 point cushion suggests. I'd rather target wins against the teams in and around us.

Who is not targeting wins?

The general consensus is if we are gaining ground on West Ham that is a good thing, whether it's 1 point or 3.

We have taken 8 points from our last 4 games, we are heading in the right direction. Points on the board are far more important than looking good for a period of a game & throwing it away.

What about how the last games against Leeds and Wolves went? Maximum points taken already and a good chance for more, no ground lost on Palace either after today but a point closer to Spurs (at present) and a higher final finish.

Six points over 18th is actually a lot more substantial and comfortable than 6 over 5th/6th as we were looking at this time last season.

I don’t think anything is rosy, because we’re in a relegation battle, but you have to take the positives from this weekend.

What makes you think we’re not targeting wins?

Would have won today without the Williams mistake. In the second half, we even created a bit. Also, beaten West Ham, Wolves and Tottenham in the past 2 months, which are the teams around us.

It was a comment on 4 points from the next 2 will have us in good shape, my point was it gets a lot harder so need 6 after dropping 2 really today at home against a club in turmoil.

I rather not drag this out for another 10 games.
Weve shown we can drop points in 'easy' games and pick then up in 'harder' games all season.

I doubt that will change now.

4 points from the next 2 games will be par.

I had Brentford as a loss and Palace as a win, so I’d say we’re a point ahead from the last 2 games. I certainly think 4 points from the next 2 would be fine, but it’s also about keeping ahead of West Ham. If West Ham lose the next 2, then 3 points from our next 2 would be fine 👍

Ultimately, how we perform relative to West Ham is all that matters.

8 from the last 4 should be above expectations for us, but West Ham's back to back wins diminishes that.

The 'model' I'm running, says anything between 34-38 points should be good enough for safety, although, I'd take that with a pinch of salt at the moment.

38 and we're unlucky to go down.

It can happen but I think we get over 40 and its comfortable for the last couple of games.

But it didn't.

Hell, if we'd have had the sense to sack snake Nuno earlier, then they likely wouldn't have taken 3pts off us at home. We can all play the "if what never happened had happened" game. But I don't see any value in it myself.

Current work after today says 33-34, but, even then, that requires some 'interesting' results.

Disappointing not to be 8 points clear. Crazy mistake today probably cost us 2 points. We are maddening the way we can’t take these opportunities to go clear. This was a weekend where we had an ‘easy’ game as far as the PL goes, and our 2 biggest rivals had super-hard fixtures. We should be further clear.

Good point under the circumstances, but so frustrating as well

I don’t think we can be disappointed about not being 8 points clear. In the context of the game after the red card, it’s a very good point.

I also think we’ve placed too much emphasis on this particular run of ‘so called’ easier fixtures against Palace, Leeds and Wolves. Dyche has certainly made us more competitive, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we give Liverpool and Brighton a decent game.

We also need to keep our heads when results don’t go our way. There was a bizarre meltdown when West Ham beat Sunderland and closed the gap to 2 points. I don’t think we’re going to have comfortable daylight for a while, so we just need to keep our heads. 6 points clear is an Ok place to be.

We all know we're as likely to pick up points against the top teams as against the strugglers.

It was and will always be thus.

So we're all good.

We should have bought Lucca on later on today though.

The Forest way is to beat Liverpool but lose 1-0 at home to Wolves in the most soul-destroying way possible.
