To be fair I think he thought that the minute silence had already started, then when the ref blew the whistle he thought that was the end. Stupid thing to do but he didn't mean to
 
Yeah I didnt think it was intentional, just someone either pissed or thick as two short ones.

I agree with Rigler though, the people that did it want slapping. Someone did it about halfway through as well in the Trent End.
 
A couple of people did it. I don't think it was intentional, probably thought it was the whistle to signal the end of the silence. Certainly no need to crucify them for a mistake.

Well, listening on the radio, it was a bit confused. There was about 20 seconds of silence (broken only by some kid chanting) before the ref blew his whistle to start the minute's silence, so it's understandable if people were unsure of whether that was the start or the end of the minute.

It was a bit embarrassing that there seemed to be several people unable to keep quiet. As Col said, it's not that hard!

It was an accident, think they thought the whistle meant end of the silence, which must mean they have a terrible perception of time passing as the crowd had only been silent 10 seconds before that, was quite embarrassing in front of the qpr fans and whoever else.
 
There was what seemed a massive pause between the announcement of the silence and the ref whistle.

I was a little later than usual so in the concourse and paused at the top of the stairs amongst other last-minuters to observe the silence, so without the visual cues to help see what was happening it was potentially confusing, but the PA announcement was pretty clear in the concourse, so no real excuse for latecomers either.

Basically, interrupting a minute silence wilfully or ignorantly is pretty despicable. It's not hard to realise what's happening as silence is such an unnatural and almost eerie thing at a football ground.

Unless you happened to be in the QPR end, where silence amongst the massed ranks appeared to be the norm...

If people cannot understand the simple PA anouncement that 'the minutes silence will start on the refs whistle' or for that matter shut up and listen to the PA, then they must be deaf or just twats, they should have been kicked out!
 
everyone that talked, shouted and to some extent carried on as normal wants shooting, or at least dropping in Afghanistan to see exactly what it's like and why we should all be bloody gratefull to everyone who has and is serving in the forces. a few minutes every year, is that too much? I think it's no where near enough. Lest we forget.
 
Either way I don't think they'll be doing it again. I'm sure their mates (if they had any with them) will be ripping it out of them for years to come, and I bet the scowls from the folk around them during the rest of the match will haunt forever... (it's not me either before you ask).

Was listening on the radio and only heard the one and he sounded like he wasn't aware of it.

Will it be shown tonight or will it be edited?

I thought it was generally well observed. Out of 20,000 plus there will always be the odd nobhead.

The old guy looked like he was in tears when he (eventually) reached the tunnel.

Quite moving.

Isn't usually a two-minute silence for remembrance? Or is that considered too complex for football fans these days?

Even if he thought it was the end of the silence, shouting "YOOOOUUUUUU RRRREEEEDDDDSSS" isn't really appropriate. It just proves that all through what is supposed to be a moment of sombre reflection he was actually thinking "When this is over I'm going to shout YOU REDS as loud as I can, hehehe". Of course he can think what he wants and if he can't be bothered to think about the tragedies that befell our grandparents' generation then fine, but the respectful thing to do after a minute's silence is to applaud, not bellow like a lunatic because you're so glad the terrible ordeal of keeping shtum for 60 seconds is over :rolleyes:
 
I agree with the above. I cant get my head around why people would want to shout "YOU REEDDSS" as loud as they can after a minutes silence.

I don't think many people are comfortable with silence, most people have to have some sort of noise going on at all times in their life (especially music), apart from sleep. Just shows the level of insecurity a lot of people have.

I was chatting to a mate who was selling poppies by the gates into the main stand carpark before the game and was there as the minutes silence was started. Stood silently and bowed my head and as you said the silence was almost eerie especially at a football ground yet even with the audio and visual clues almost everyone walking past me was clueless as to what was happening and heard more than a few Uuuuuu Reeeeds.

I'd have said something if I wasn't respecting the minute myself.
