Championship promotion chasers Norwich have slapped an official “Not for sale” sign on £2million-rated star striker Grant Holt.

Several Premier League sides, including Wigan, West Ham, Bolton and Blackpool, have been linked with Canaries captain and nine-goal leading scorer Holt, 29, who has become a cult hero at Carrow Road since being snapped up from Shrewsbury for just £600,000 in 2009.

Holt still has 18 months to run on his current contract but club officials will shortly begin talks about a new deal.

A Norwich spokesman said simply: “Grant Holt is not for sale.”

And before anyone starts telling me he was shite let me say – YES he was as a winger.

Here’s his STATS’ (league games only)

Rochdale - 75 Games- 34 Goals
Forest - 74 Games - 20 Goals
Shrewsbury - 43 Games - 20 Goals
Norwich – 59 Games – 33 Goals

I know we’ve moved on since but he still could have been producing those goal figures for us instead of Norwich.

I think he had a raw deal here – playing him on the wing when everyone knows he’s an out & out striker and the statistics stand up to prove this.

The fans got on his back for what I would describe as mis-management.

The fans got on his back for his shop window comments.

It was a throwaway comment in the wake of a potential big cup tie (which if memory serves, we didn't get to play anyway) where he said something like it was an opportunity for players to put themselves in the shop window.

There was a lot of overreaction. I'm quite pleased for him he's doing well, it must have been frustrating being lumped out on the wing when you're clearly not a winger!

Agree 100% PSR! Grolt would have done brilliantly if he had played under Billy. Better target man than Dex and Dele imo and someone who has got better and better in recent years.

I blame Clownderwood for his dismissal! ANYONE can see he's not built like a left winger! He's a big solid target man! Grolt probably knew he would have to move in order to further his career as he was never utilized to his full potential here.

Always gave 100% no matter where he played. I still shudder at the thought of colin putting him on the wing versus chelsea when agogo and tys were being man handled up front!!!

He's doing well this season, but up until now he's been a lower league striker. I don't think we could have held on to him in the hope that he may come good in 2010.

Not so my friend - had it not been for our boo boys he wouldn't have had to do that.

When he was knocking the goals in for us he was a hero - "Clueless" stuck him out on the wing and he was far less effective and became pissed off like many others would have.

And don't let's forget the time he played half a season with groin problems but the club still didn't send him for a operation during that closed season - they waited until Tyson came back fit at the end of Sept/Oct and then sent him for his Op'. When he came back that's when the Clueless one decided to play him wide on the wing and that is also when the crowd started to get on his back.

I don't recall the "shop window" comments... What did he say?

Nothing really! Only some passing comment before the televised game against chelsea, saying it was an opportunity for some players to put themselves in the shop window. Which is true. Don't blame him really the manager didn't have a clue.

I don't think it was a case of hopeing he would come good - he had already proved his worth as a target man come striker.

Every time I see him on the box now he is still hard to handle and when he's not scoring he creates space and makes chances for those around him and don't let's forget he is doing it week-in-week out against the same teams we are up against every week in the Champonship.

My point is we will never know how he would have performed in the Championship in the last two seasons so it's a bit academic really.

I've got no ill feelings towards Grolt.

He made me laugh after we got promoted. There was a group of people outside the player's entrance following the Yeovil game. Each member of the squad got a cheer and then mingled for five mins with the fans.

Then Grolt appeared, babe in arms, and looked a bit awkward. Nobody cheered, it was awkward for us too. Then he looked down at the child and said: "Quite a good excuse for not signing autographs, this!"

Ive moved on from holt myself, hes done well for himself since leaving full credit to him and i have no ill feelings towards him. Am i looking at how he is doing thinking i wish we hadnt let him go, no not really.

We do know how he's got/getting on - it's just that he's doing it with someone else.

Agreed mate.

I also don't think he'd suit our style of play. Grolt is a big fat target man with a decent finish. We (try to) play short, sharp, quick football. Decent player but no big loss, certainly not cut out for the Premiership which we'll be eventually ;)

If we want to talk about the one that got away we can start with SWP!

Indeed and the only shop window our boys were in after that game was a head shop window
That had to be one of my low points as a Forest supporter. We were totally humiliated by a class Chelsea team.

When I read nonsense like that I am really glad Forest have a Transfer Acquisition Panel to stop managers spending ridiculous sums of money on mediocre players.

£2m - LOL :)

I thought he linked up quite well with Tyson in his first full season with us.

Spot on. £2M especially for a near 30 year old lump like Holt is well over the top. Decent player. We probably shouldn't have let him go but don't ever remember losing any sleep over it. I certainly don't intend to start losing sleep over it now.

The first time I saw him play was in the 7-0 Swindon win (Charlie and Barley's first game), he was incredibly willing and really impressive. It's obvious he didn't get on with Colin and the fact of the matter is that if you punch the manager, your days are numbered. I also heard some stuff about his weekend habits which meant I wasn't too sad to see him out the backdoor. Credit to him for getting his career back on track after dropping down the leagues but I have to say, I don't miss him - he's not mobile enough to play in this team. Norwich play to his strengths, if we did that we'd be wasting our best players.

I thought he was stuck out on the wing because he was s**t up front!

He used to really wind me up when watching him play, any long kick from the goalie or hoof down the middle from Wes and Co, and he would do this thing where he would look at the ball coming, then just before it dropped, he would take a look at the defender, which gave the defender the opportunity to get in front of him and win the ball.

And when I stood next to him I was suprised that I was both taller and let's say of fuller figure than him. He's supposed to be 6 ft, but I'm just under. It's no wonder he got knocked off the ball so easily.

I think you're getting mixed up here with the ginger whinger - Gary Holt
