The official "we're not shit anymore" thread

I think the years of dire depressing times for our great football club are over and we can once again stand proud amongst other supporters throughout the country when we say “we are Forest fans”.
We have had to put up which what must go down as some of the worst times the club has ever gone through but it just makes what we are producing on the pitch now seem even better.
Our support has been tested to the max and at times going down to The City Ground felt more of a chore than the enjoyment and excitement we should feel.
I now look forward to when we are on National TV rather than dreading it, just hoping the players on the pitch didn’t embarrass us all.
We have all seen the bad times over the past few years but now it’s time to let the good times roll!

It's so difficult to get out of that way of thinking, though.

Take yesterday, for example. Before the game we were all convinced we were going to get rolled over. I seem to remember someone saying as long as it was y less than Derby it'd be ok. I don't think anyone really expected anything from the game, but once again the team showed to us, and the world, that we are a good side again, and one tha is proving very very difficult to beat.

It feels like we're at the start of something very good indeed.

No matter how shit we have been I have never once felt ashamed to state my support of the mighty Reds.

I think we're going to get promoted. We've turned in to a very, very hard to beat team. If we start scoring goals at some point we could be shit hot.

I'd fancy us against anyone in a playoff situation.

I don't like Billys tactics (timewasting, deliberate protests to try and get players sent off), Brian wouldn't have stood for that crap yesterday. But its great to see us a bit more savvy for a change. Its about winning/not getting beaten, not making friends.

It ain't half exciting to be good again.

I still go into every away game expecting us to lose but I put that down to the past few years when for most part we were shocking on the road.

It will take a while to get out of that mind-set as with Forest as we are so used to being crap and expecting them to let us down again.

However I do believe over the past few months we have come a long long way and can only see us getting better

It's not only the results and the steel of the team that have impressed me. It's the first time in a long time we are playing some great, attractive football. I never thought we would play with that kind of style under BD, but the way we passed it out of defence made me feel very proud. A nice passing team with grit and passion. Brian would've given us the thumbs up last night.

Even after the Chelsea game? Honestly?

Although we have had more embarrassing results on paper, the Chelsea game was one of my lowest points. Chelsea turned up for a kick about and didn't even have to get out of breath to stuff us.

Could have been 8 or 9 if Chelsea fancied it.

I think we have come a hell of a long way since those days

Quality thread!

And yeah, it feels like the start. That's actually the best bit. Get some more defensive steel in, get another midfield wizard in, maybe a McSheffry type, and we'll move up another gear still. Will this happen in January, or the summer? That's now the question.

The difference now is that we are scoring late goals - I have followed this team since 1966/67 and I have always had that feeling that, if we were down with 5 minutes to go we were bound to lose. Not so nowadays - we are playing for the full 90 minutes and then some, it's so good to know that we are never out of it.

In recent seasons if we have gone behind we always seemed to stuggle but, even yesterday after Cardiff scored, I felt that we could and would score.

I agreee with most of that, but in 78 79 80 we were never behind..

The last time I remember us scoring lots of late goals was under Harty, when we bagged lots of points due to late goals turning losses into draws and draws into wins. No coincidence that season ended up with us in the play-offs.

The thing that really excites me is that we have achieved everything so far with hardly a single contribution from potentially our best goal scorer. Based on the season so far I don't think Earnie warrants a starting spot, but at some point this season he will hit form - he's too good not to. And when that happens, things could really get exciting ........

What was there for me to be ashamed about?

We filled the Shed End and outsung the home fans despite the performance on the pitch being dreadful.

I left Stamford Bridge proud to be a Red that day.

I did too. Wonderful support. Just a bit depressing seeing Grant Holt playing for you at left-midfield.

There is no need for any fan who supports a team outside of the "Glory4" to be ashamed of their club no matter how low they plummet. No matter what we say about the embarrassment of following sheep - we still respect fans like Pear Tree Ram who stick by them through thick and thin. I have always had great banter with rival fans in SA apart from the occasional sneering Scouser or ManUre fan who probably couldn't find Manchester on a map if he tried.

I watched your game and I thought you looked a very good outfit.
Patient, composed and the leveller was sublime strike.

As regards this saturday, the plus point for us is that we were just SO BAD on saturday, we can't possibly play that badly again.
Plus he has to play Paul Hartley in the middle from the start linking behind Maynard and Haynes.

So, controversial as it will be with you, I think we'll win 1-2.

;D

Thats the thought that keeps hitting me.

If this is the start, if this is the unfinished article, if this is the work in progress, then what the hell is the 'finished article' going to be??

I like your logic.

(Yes, I know your post may have been ever so slightly edited, but I'm sticking by my response.)

Good to see you back around here!

Looking forwards to the game on Saturday, hopefully we'll continue our 'getting slightly impressive' undefeated streak.

Tricky game, but I reckon we'll edge it.

Then, I woudl think that, wouldn't I? :)

Sorry probably wrong thread but will Dex be back for saturday?. If not I like the idea of same midfield except Gaz on the right and drop Garner.

I'd be inclined to go with that.

I really liked the formation yesterday, thought it worked very well, although McGoldrick wasn't overly effective.

Might be tighter than that, probably a 5-0 or maybe even a 5-0.

Blackstock's still out I think, which is why I went with this as my chosen line-up for Saturday:

Camp

Gunter Morgan Wilson Cohen/Lynch

McKenna Moussi

Anderson McCleary/Cohen

Garner McGoldrick
