The most important games this season

So which games do we think turned out to be the most important to our survival this season?

personally i think
1. donny at home because it opened up the door for us to bring BD in
2. norwich away, for me this gave me hope again so soon after donny
3. bristol at home, setting up our end of season run in, i cannot describe the feeling i had when our 2nd and 3rd went in and when i was leaving the ground, been along time since ive felt like that about our club, it actually felt like forest became a bigger part of me within 1 after noon

I was thinking about this yesterday, forgot to make a thread on it.Key games this season:

Palace 1-2 Forest
D*rby 1-1 Forest(who knows what would have happend in Camp hadn't saved that penalty)
Forest 1-0 Barnsley(awful game,vital three points)
Forest 2-4 Doncaster(the end of CC)
Norwich 2-3 Forest(very important at the time)
Barnsley 1-1 Forest (like the D*rby situation,if Turner hadn't have saved that)
Forest 3-2 Bristol City (biggest of them all)

Bristol City was the game of the season.

Definitely Bristol home.

Before the game, was talking to various people, and decided that "this game defines our season".

Then we played, and at 70 minutes, I concluded that "the next 20 minutes defines our season".

The rest is history.

In terms of a season-changing result, that was the one, for me. To snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, the manner of it, and the eruption of feeling when that last goal went in (Goatboy's post (clicky) on the forum pretty much summed up the feeling in the City Ground) - all that said to me "we're going to be OK."

Up to that point I was still not sure, but that game was the one for me.

Re: The most inportant games this season

Donny away was most crucial as Colin was sacked and without that we would be a league one side now. Between then and now, I would say the Norwich away game when we got out of the bottom three for the first time in months and of course, Bristol City at home as without that comeback it would have been almost impossible to stay up.

definately we will ever know what would have happened if these games had been lost

Re: The most inportant games this season

Crystal Palace away - Our first away win that ended a terrible run of 10 games without a win
Norwich City away - First game after CC was sacked, we looked a completely different team and took the game to Norwich in the first half
Reading away - After 6 games without a win under BD (including 2 home defeats vs Direby) this victory was most unexpected
Bristol City home - Cant remember the last time a game ended with this much excitement. To win having been a goal down with 8 minutes to go was amazing.

Without being a bore I would have to say Norwich V's Reading was propbably the most important game/resuult towards the end of the season, but for us directly it would need to be Bristol

we would of been safe by 5pts :)

For me it's the 5-0 drubbing by burnley as it gave us a kick up the arse that we needed to tell us we were in the s**t as i believe some players were playing as we wouldn't go down as we were too good to go down, where have we heard that before?

All of them are important, really. Those which gave us points were all pretty vital.

Norwich away felt like a turning point, a turning point that was made possibly by CC getting sacked after Doncaster at home.

The bristol city game, without a doubt (3-2 win) :)

Also, the barnsley away game (1-1), we did well to get a vital point, because at 1-0 and them having a penalty, we could have easily lost that game

Good point about the Barnsley match there.

I'd name two polar games as being equally important ones this season for very different reasons.

Doncaster at home saw us at a real low. Moral, confidence and self belief was at an all time low and although the result was reflective of this, it was the changes that followed as an accumulation that enforced a change in direction and fortune.

I'd also agree that it was not just winning the Bristol City home game but winning it in the manner we did which was a real motivating factor and confidence boost in our push for survival for the squad and the fans.

If it were as if the team were lifted that extra degree by a slightly higher singing, just a voice higher in the volume.

Without a doubt the Republic of Ireland XI vs Nottingham Forest game.

Gave the lads a change of scenery. :)

Maybe it's because I was there, but I'd have to say the moment that proved to be the most crucial (and I can totally understand people saying Bristol City at home) IMO was Turner's penalty save. 2-0 and that game was over, Barnsley would've been pretty much safe (and heaped pressure on us in the process - going ahead of them in the final couple of weeks was important) and I think it would've hurt our morale.

The fact that we didn't give up and managed to get a fully-deserved equaliser spurred us on IMO.

Also, forget about Dextor's ultimate winner against Bristol City, what about Gunter's decision to close down their full-back? We probably wouldn't have won if he didn't do that.

Surprised no-one has mentioned Sheff Utd away. It was only a point but the manner in which that point was won cannot be underestimated.
Kept the little run going and confidence high.

im suprised no-one has mentioned the 0-0 draw away at sheffield united

this game gave me real belief that we would stay up seeing the effort the players put in at rammel lane

i loved that game when the final whistle went

I forgot to mention the 0-0 draw at Sheffield United,, i'm surprised no one else has mentioned it yet. To play 70 minutes with 10 men and not lose was a great result :)

I forgot to mention that heroic effort at Sheffield United.Only because no one else has mentioned it :-*,again could have been damaging after Wilson's sending off and could have easily folded and lost 3 or 4-0 in that match but what an effort.
