The Mood

Five years ago today was Chris Hughton's final game in charge, a 2-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough.

What an incredible time it's been since that day. Amazing how much has happened since then.
I was there, seriously considering the option of just walking out onto the pitch mid game and squeezing out a todd in the centre circle

Just maybe 3 weeks without Forest will make me give one and care a jot. Something died with me when Pereira was outed and the flag hasn't been flying from the balcony this season so far.

Boring play today and on other occasions; the Captain had a point. Up with this we shall not put.

It does feel like we're incapable of taking a firm step forward still. It was our problem all last season. We'd bag an unexpected result and then completely fail to back it up, and failed to pull away as a result.

Early days yet, but I'm expecting us to be in the lower third of the table again this year. Hopefully it's not as stressful as last time and relegation is not a serious threat.

I am confident we will get better over time. Just got to ride the crap days like today until then.

Today was a reminder to me to invest less about things I cannot control like eleven goons in Forest shirts kicking a bag of leather around
I try and try but I just can't help it. Losing and especially losing a game like this, in this manner ruins my evening at the very least.

As a grown man I shouldn't let it affect me so much but after 35 years it's a hard habit to get out of, I suppose.

Was it a crap performance all over the shop, and a crap result? Yes, it was.
Would I mind too much if we didn't have a 3-week break ahead, ideal for everyone and their dog to voice mostly silly takes on the subject on every platform? No, I wouldn't.

Shit performance, predictable result.
That being said at the start of the season, if you'd said we'd get maybe 5-6 points from the first five games I'd have said you were about right.
I just wouldn't have gone for the games we got the points in.

Leeds (H) - Expected to get something, deserved a draw, lost.
Liverpool (A) - Hoped for something, deserved a draw, drew.
Spurs (H) - Hoped for something, deserved to win, drew.
Villa (A) - Expected to lose, deserved to win, won.
Coventry (H) - Expected to win, deserved to lose, lost.

Think October will be a better month for us.
  • We should beat Palace.
  • Arsenal is a funny one, because we're crap at home but we're actually decent against the big teams at home. Probably a loss but maybe a draw.
  • Ipswich away. If it was home, i'd imagine a loss but since it's away, I think we should beat them.
  • Brentford. They're having a good run but again, it's away.

Olly's pre-game thoughts ring a bit hollow now, but I've found ways to occupy myself this weekend to ease the irritation I feel, though I'll bet the whole playing branch of the club feels much worse than I do.

Yes you are about right. I don’t want to say but it if we had a Keeper that could react quicker I think we would be currently sat on 7pts. Unbeaten after 5 games although with 4 draws.

We aren't going to beat everyone but we need to beat someone.

Can't go from a performance like Villa, to one like that on Saturday.

Let's get some consistency going, get the smiles back, and get the love going again.

My Forest-related mood is that of resignation to having facepalm moments like this for the next 3 weeks. I mean, yes, that's... one possible take on Saturday I guess.
