The Fall

Urrrgh
now I know im only being pessimistic so that if we do fail it wont hurt so bad, but I really wouldnt enjoy a season of thrashings in the prem.

and as a side note, I almost fell off my setee on sat when the commentators said Charlie Adam was 'too good for the championship'

Blackpool in the prem could be more hilarious than dirty.

Providing we have a good summer, going up as champions next year would be better than the back door.

well, of course, that is all said if we fail... if we suceed, then, Im all for it... :D

charlie adam was dreadful on saturday and hasnt really been of any quality in the other games I've seen him play. Admittedly thats not been many. The only time he has was at the city ground, with the only time he moved out of his own half and got the goal.

I think that's a difference between the two teams.
We'd like to believe the dream but really we know that Blackpool can't compete in the Prem and it's only a question of whether we could do any better than Derby. Think most fans would want us to be sensible with the cash and come down with a nice parachute.
You're a big enough club to feel that you can do what Stoke, Birmingham etc have done, and for sure Billy Davies will expect that, and will demand the finances to support it, or he'll be off.

But what do you do then, with your parachute? Do you gamble and spend it, and end up like Derby? Or do you leave it in the bank, like Burnley, and hope to repeat the same miracle?

For what it's worth, what Blackpool and Forest have achieved this season is remarkable, given where we both were five years ago, but it has to be really carefully managed if either team goes any further. Stoke City went up at the same time as Hull City, if the league positions were reversed would Stoke be in the same financial mire?

If we don't spend heavily in the summer then we will not stand a chance of staying up or even giving a respectable account of ourselves in the Premiership.

What is the point in going up, banking the money and being humilated week in, week out and going down with such a depression about the place that you end up being a mediocre Championship club? I would rather not bother.

I'd amend the 'spend heavily' to 'spend well' then you have a point, but the fact remains that there are risks attached- for all Hull's parachute payments, they will be screwed for a while to come, because they spent too much and cannot afford it.

Blackpool have the second lowest gates in the Championship - 8k rather than Forest's 24k. So just staying in the Championship whilst not going broke is a major achievement.

As you say, you'd be worried about staying up in the Prem. We wouldn't be worried, it would be pretty much a guaranteed one way trip, think we'd try to enjoy the ride for what it is.

We are just so amazed and delighted to be where we are, everything else is just a bonus. We're excited, but the pressure is all on you guys now.

Blackpool would be no different to Burnley and lets be honest they weren't that far off surviving. Birmingham and Wolves have both survived and the likes of Stoke have comfortably survived again. The Prem is a 2 tier league, its getting results off the botton 10 clubs you have aim for, anything else is a bonus. No gaurantee if Forest don't go up that we will be anymore ready next season

Fair point about spending well but we should also spend sensibly to the same token so that if we come down we can manage with the parachute payments to keep the squad together and not laden with debt and be in a good position to bounce back.

Hull spent stupidly: £5m on an average player like Bullard on 50k a week on a four and a half year contract and massive wages on a mediocre player like Geovanni. I'm sure we wouldn't do this.

Derby spent all of their money on utter shite, mostly by Jewell but Davies didn't spend well either in the summer.

We've got more sense than to throw money are average players, If we did go up I would be happy as long as we got at least 12 premier league points.

If we did go up, I'd expect to see the 4-5-1 formation employed both home and away.

It's worked well enough for Wolves.

We'll need a better striker than Dexter Blackstock to play the role. I like Dex a lot, but he'd struggle on his own in the Premiership.
