If it is a nonesense then the logical conclusion has to be no one owner can own more than one club withing the confines of Europe. It makes sense if you think about it.
If two clubs are owned by the same owner there is a chance they will take decisions which benefit one of the other clubs.
If Club A and Club B were both in the same competition and Club A were already through and one match to go a draw would send Club B through with them but a win for Club A would knock Club B out, then there'd be a fair chance that Club A would play for a draw rather than winning. That would then be a bit harsh on the club that would miss out because mostly teams go into matches to try and win them.
That could happen still even if EM put his Forest shares into a blind trust so someone else controlled it, it'd still technically be part of the same group, and there would still be the chance that the two clubs could take a decision which benefits both as opposed to just one of them.
Palace had a chance of resolving the ownership issue by the deadline as they had a chance of qualifying but chose not to. If they hadn't qualified they could have reversed it.
There is so much more serious opportunity for corrupt behaviour, not just 2 clubs under the same ownership playing each other in a European competition.
Player swaps/loans and deals can be arranged to subvert PSR.
One owner, one club.
That's the only logical solution.
