What I noticed from last season is that Forest were sort of the team that came from nowhere after such a poor start....

Could we do the same this year and creep our way up the table like the Dark Horses that we are? QPR will start to bottle it, though I can't see Cardiff slipping outside the top two with their strike-force now including a very good Andy Keogh!
Optomistic I know but if we win our next two games v The Blades and Doncaster we could challenge for automatic :)...There I Said it :eek:

All hinges on injuries to me, if we have another relatively lucky season then we have a starting XI and a few options that could challenge.

A few players out though, and we'd be a bit screwed. We've been close to the bare bones already but just about got away with it, so you never know!
 
as long as we don't sign Perch back on a mercy loan...
 
I see your point but two things are also possible:
1. If QPR continue their good run up to December, then being a "London Club" they would easily be able to boost their squad further in January if they wanted to.
2. Cardiff's management have clearly decided to bank everything on one big push and the wheels could easily come off if some results don't go their way in Oct/Nov. If they have not pulled away from the pack by December they are going to really feel the heat in Jan/Feb and I can't see them being able to boost their squad further. TBH I would love to see it all blow up in their faces BUT that is just wishful thinking.
 
A 3rd thing is also possible.

3. Watford carry on scoring more often than Bill Clinton at a secretary's training day, and top the table by 10 clear points.

I agree wholeheartedly and would go one further and say that if we had played pre-season a little differently we could already be up there with the big boys and looking an attractive vehicle back to the prem for some players. I know hindsight is a great thing but it feels like we are just about recovered from the psychological wounds inflicted by Billy and his 'We aren't good enough' rants to the press. If we can make it into the top five by boxing day I believe we could secure Bertrand and attract the quality and quantity for the final push. I just hope we don't rue the uninspired, demotivated start to the season that transpired.
 
If Billy just stuck to tactics and motivating his team then we would certainly have started the season (both as fans and team) in a better frame of mind.
 
Jesus, playoffs, can't handle us bottling it four 4th time in 8 years...It all depends on December I suppose, QPR have been promised 30 million to spend in January If they are in the top six which is likely, and Cardiff are going all out...I'm not worried about Watford tbe honest can't see them being anything more then a playoff team. I completely agree with Winnits...if we keep the squad together ie. No Injuries/ Suspensions we'll be contenders!
 
One small consolation if we don't take the lead:
If QPR do show everyone a clean pair of heels by February it is going to be hilarious watching Cardiff sweat and panic over trying to make the second spot and their wheels will certainly come off.

I can't believe people are slagging Billy off. He is the reason we are kicking on now despite lack of transfers. If he had been listened to in January or over the summer we would have had a much better run in and a much better start to this season. The squad is thin for the championship, thinner than last season yet we are a win away from the play off positions.

If the reports are correct then QPR have been promised a large transfer kitty for January, if they are within the top 6..

I also believe ND will get us a good couple of signings in January if we are doing well at the time.

So now imagine this situation, the top 3 in January is 1. QPR 2. Cardiff 3. Forest
QPR and Forest both strengthen their squads, but Cardiff can't because they have scuffed all their money on Bellamy. QPR run away with it, and the race for second is between Cardiff and Forest... :)

I'm not certain. Out of the current squad I can only think of Bennett who was signed in a January but that must have been at least 4 years ago. We signed Holt in a January but again that was at least 4 years ago. There must be some since then although none the last two years for sure. And I think we only signed Prutton on loan in 07. So it was either someone I can't think of in 08 or it is 4 years since.
 
PSR is the inside man, what does he say on the matter of January signings ?
