The Crowd

Quote from Nigel Clough, BBC Sport:

"We were very impressive and silenced the crowd, which was something we set out to do. "

That short sentence says it all almost about this club. The vast majority of our fans are moaning idiots who know absolutely nothing about playing football.

Yes, it's hard to get to excited and start singing if we're not playing that well, but what some people need to remember is that we are not the club we think we are and as such, will not be setting the world alight with scintillating performances.

I was sat in Brian Clough Upper, block J today (My dad's season ticket as he was on holiday) and quite frankly, i felt like i was at a funeral. Surrounded by people moaning, constantly having a go and not once did anyone so much as mumble along with any of the very limited chants. one guy sat behind me in particular was awful, constantly complaining.

It beggars belief that people expect the team to do well all the time and continue to do that when sections are shouting at players and groaning. Quite frankly, it's almost embarrassing.

Personally I always want to join in with chants and songs and there are very few areas where this happens now. But today it wasn't just BC Upper, the whole ground was deathly quiet apart from moans and groans. We are becoming far too easy to master because teams know that all they have to do is silence the crowd. Yes, the players should be playing better and showing more desire sometimes, but for crying out loud, give them a chance and show them that we want them to do well. Because at the moment, too many fans seem content on paying their money and not getting behind the team.

I know what you mean mate but when the stewards where telling most of us to sit down and shut up as we where winding up the derby fans what hope have we got?

maybe for next season we use the net to our advantage for once and get on all the forest forums and arange to get all the fans that like a bit of banter and a sing song to buy season tickets in together in lower b/c

2 points.

1. Brian clough upper is always like that.
2. Don't tell me how to support my club.

Not a bad idea mate. I am never sitting in that part of the ground again though thats for sure!!

I sat in BC Upper, block P next to Cap 1 for the cup game against the sheep and the atmosphere was electric, even when we conceded. Why can't it be more like that all the time?

:D @ Saunders, be a bit of an odd one! But in all seriousness, Are we destined to really be THAT team, the one opposition managers say "press them early, their fans will get on their backs within minutes"?? I'd rather have 15-18,000 fans singing themselves hoarse and really giving it their all, than an additional 10k who bring the atmosphere down with moans, negativity and general dour behaviour

I don't go to enough games to be able to comment on what it is like every week, i go when i can afford it and have the time. But the games i have been to you can say the same thing about the players on the pitch!

I dont know what all the fuss is about cap one corner I thought id give it a go as I couldnt be arsed with the hassle of going the ticket office to buy tickets for A block and buying online is so much easier, in its day A block would of outsung the sheep and given cloughy a bad time, but even commons got off lightly, afterall rogers got boost bars chucked at him (still makes me chuckle when I see them bars and often give out a childish "boost boost" chant to her indoors lol.

I think I will be in A blcok for the rest of this season but it I cant see it ever being like it was back in the days of the prem and our early seasons in the championship

I used to think like you, but i think i have a few years on you, and have just come to accept that that's how it is now. Today's performance was particularly pitiful (bar the last 10 mins or so, when we got the goal, and looked a bit lively) but to be honest to treat your home crowd, full house to a display like that against your local rivals, you should be ashamed, especially having already lost to them this season. I think a lot of the fans were feeling a bit like that today, and that we should have done better in the league game, but to lose a goal after 5 minutes killed the atmosphere, and to go 2 down straight away after half time, to just basic set pieces, we should be defending a lot better, was just so disappointing. To be honest i couldnt really see and didnt think it was a penalty, but that just capped it off i think for the fans. as regards singing, if you want to sing, bc upper probably isnt your spot, try cap one corner, a block or upper trent.

Matt, yeah I'm 22 so yeah you got a few on me! I do agree with what you say, it is just so bloody frustrating sometimes. I know BC Upper is notoriously quiet but have had to sit there recently (being a student, i can rarely afford the ÂŁ25 to sit elsewhere so get the ÂŁ12 tickets which are limited to BC Upper, somewhere near Trent.)

I guess all we can do as individuals is try and give it our all and not worry about everyone else, but it is a far cry from the years that made me fall in love with this place, when the CG was rocking back in the early 90s. Or was i just a lot smaller so thought it was louder?!

RICH1977

no the place did used to rock back in those days but so did the play on the field if im honest, just thinking back now to the game against the gunners the first match pearce took charge of I cant remember anything of the game just the noise from A block and when the finnal whistle went grown men jumping around and hugging each other like we had just won the league, god I wish I could go back to those days :( :(

Age old, Chicken and Egg argument. Who get's who going?

My first game was v Wolves in 93 i think, i was 6 years old in B Block :D.

Another amazing atmosphere was the year we went down, and beat Leicester on final day of the season.

I would love to see those days come back, amazing crowds and decent football so hopefully my kids can fall in love like i did. At this rate though, it's not going to happen for a long, long time :(

Unfortunately young man we are a club with history and passion. Both of these factors may be dieing but the flame still burns.

When I stop being charged ÂŁ500 for a season ticket and the football reflects the price (ÂŁ200) then we can all shut up and applaud failure like yourself with you free ticket.

Bed time for you.

There was a bit of trouble in the Trent after the game, a couple of people started fighting for...some reason or another. Think someone took a swing at a girl who had thrown something onto the pitch earlier.

It was a skirmish of Power Rangers proportions.

Five minutes before kick off ground was rocking, A/B Block, Cap1, lower BC T block,TE, all giving it large.....then.....nothing, all went very still, surreal almost....almost as if we all knew what was coming.......if only we had Bridgford lower, the atmosphere would be sound(literally).

RICH1977

id love to have lower bridgford but the times we have asked for it and we have been turned down, can remember the season when I had a season ticket in lower bridgford while trent end was being built I was gutted when it was completed and we had to leave. who remembers the silly collmore gun salute

I was stood in A Block this afternoon and despite being an irregular visitor I did think it went rather quiet after the third goal.

Our goal had those of us remaining cheering out of relief as we rejoiced half heartedly.

The atmosphere and the singing during the first half was as good as ever and was lifted further by the introduction of a new chant involving windows and sheep's heads. :D

U1 row a seat 100 and about a few yards from a mardy copper, enjoyed so banter with the derby fans in the first half with hand jestures and general humour, with no problems but when I got abusive towards them thats when they got arsey

Got to admit the ditty to "Whats that coming over the hill" was funny - probably the highlight of a forgetable day.

I left with 10k others 10 seconds after the third goal. :(

You're probably right about being in groups. They tend not to be able to cope with numbers.

not a excuse mate but if you have been a home fan at the city ground you will know that ignoring our stewards normally leads in you being man handled out of the ground in a very ott nature, i myself have found myself going down concrete stairs backwards on my back, so its normaly best when your the only one standing and you have a small wall seperating you from a nice drop to do as they say.
