The big, bad Billy Davies hasn't fallen out with anyone.

"I'm very confident that David - with his experience and contacts - will continue to work hard and identify players that can come into this football club."

That differs somewhat from last weeks comments:

“It’s all left to others with the result that we failed to buy a single player in the January window and failed to loan anybody since.”

Pouring scorn on £60,0000-a-year “football consultant” David Pleat, chief executive Mark Arthur and head scout Keith Burt, Davies sniffed: “I am sure they know exactly what they’re doing.

“David Pleat has a fantastic pedigree. He will be identifying players as he travels around this country and Europe on his ITV duties.”

That's a bit harsh - there is a degree of consistency: he's still referring to himself in the third person.

He didn't refer to himself in the third person in the quote I posted, though!

The level of consistency is shocking.

"What we need here is a little bit of calmness." (Big Bad Davies)

Well stop slagging off our own players and making them think they are deer caught in headlights then.

Here's an idea - how about trying to build up their confidence instead of knocking it down Billy?

There are ways of "being realistic" that don't include stating that half the team aren't up to the job and will be gone in the summer anyway.

Just keep your mouth shut, win a couple of matches and I'm sure everything will be fine.

In fairness to him, he is following a precedent.

Harry Redknapp slated his team when results started to go against him...his was a very similar outburst to Davies', in that he questioned the ability of the players at his disposal.

He subsequently came over very contrite, talking his players up and claiming that he had been misinterpreted. Thereafter results improved.

Of course, he also spent £40m in the transfer window, but it is quite similar....

That's not similar at all.

Davies hasn't said he was misinterpreted.

The other comparison with Spurs is the many communication difficulties between the Acquisition Panel and the Sell 'Em Off Panel.

Is there anyone in common between the two clubs, I wonder? Perhaps someone who has worked for both clubs recently?

Maybe we should adopt the Spurs policy, and make an effort to bring Commons, Agogo, Lester and Neil Lennon back?

Honestly, if this is all part of the Billy Davies masterplan to keep us up, I would be the first to congratulate him on his strategy. I couldn't give a stuff how we stay up this season, as long as we do.

I'm just very concerned that the culture of accepting defeat is starting to seep into our squad at the moment, which IMO is directly linked to Davies' comments about some of our players (which are probably even harsher in the dressing room). I just hope that a victory in the near future will flick the switch to our confidence back on, but sometimes after being in a certain mindset for a while, it's hard to get out of.

That article sounds like it was written by someone off here!

It seems to contain the views of people who post on here lol

I wonder if it was by the guy who does the transfer window live text?

Kind of true of the whole season really :)

Ive noticed he has really softened his voice in the interview, not rash at all.

Maybe this is putting on a front to appear that everything is alright, trying to assure the fans that all is well etc.

I really do hope the man does well. I think he can take this club were we want it to be if he is given the chance.

I don't know what more people want from this man.

He does have a funny manner when talking. I bet he's brilliant at reading bedtime stories...

About this time of day is always best to be online because when we have signed people in the past, I'm pretty sure it's mostly been late afternoon when they make the announcement!

It's been so long I'd forgotten.

A realisation that maybe, just maybe, the methods that have led to his previous successes might not be directly applicable to our current situation (ie. the next 2 months or so in our fight to stay up). That our current set of players (however much he likes/dislikes them) might not react in the way his previous players have and where in the past others have been galvanised by his approach/words, ours (on Saturday's evidence) may need a different style to gain the requisite points to stay up this season.

What he does in the summer is less of a concern to me, as he will have much more time to assess things and make the changes he wants. The risk then is much much lower than it is now.

I agree with you there, I felt the comments about players (direct comments so no mischief making) have been completely OTT and made as much as a scare tactic for the board as anything else. Young players need more than he has given. Shut up, get coaching and do your job.

I've heard the full interview on the BBC website. What is he talking about in relation to the 'fools' behind the dug out slagging him off? He said it started because he was contesting why 'their' manager was able to be 30 yards out of his box? Did some fans slag him off because he was having a go at Nigel Clough or have I misunderstood? Does anyone know what happened/he was trying to say? For the record I am inclined to agree that those behind the dugout who are already slagging him off when it is clear the predicament he is in due to the board's incompetence are probably 'fools', but some clarity on what started it/he is getting at would be appreciated.

I sounds like people we're talking about Nigel has to stay about 30 yeards from his dugout - the forest one and suggesting that he should be sitting in ther forest dugout as forest manager and not billy

Having listened to the interview and related it back to this story, there has been a hell of a lot of cutting and pasting by the journalist. Used certain bits and mixed them in with others to give a different emphasis to the story. Can only get in trouble for printing lies and made up stuff not for getting right words in wrong order. Very naughty!!

Still if he shut his gob and got on with his job then he would not have a problem in the first place.

Davies in charge is scaring me.

He seems to be covering his own back and slagging off the players and other staff. He has aired his dirty laundry in public and he seems to have lost any grip on matters already.

He came in, knew the score, knew how the club was run and took the job, as soon as results took a turn for the worse he laid into anyone around. That clearly hasn't worked.

Does he have a plan B?

Different interview's.

The one where he's 'having a dig' at Pleat were from immediately after the Sheep game, probably from his briefings with the written press men

This one on the BBC site is from this week, it'll be the one they air before the game on Saturday, I imagine.
