Hi guys, first time post here but have been reading the forums for quite a while, hoping to find out something positive about s*gn*ngs all summer!
I'm not one of the Doughty out brigade, before those accusations come flying at me! I'm sure he's a very capable businessman ...which is part of the problem! For him, our football club is a business, not a passion. I think he is perfectly capable of taking this club back to the level where it belongs (Prem), but also that it will be a challenge for him. He will not find it easy.
If we truly support Forest, then surely its our job as fans to make it as difficult as possible for Doughty to make money from the club without running it in a way that meets our not unreasonable standards, such as; requests for honest communication, expectations that we will *try* and reach the prem when it is realistic (as it was at the beginning of this season and the latter half of last season) through additions to the squad, and supporting the staff he employs by giving them the tools they need to do the job they are given to the best of their ability.
The only way we, as fans, can make a tangible impact upon the club we support and hold dear is by voicing our discontent at match days or by refusing to part with our hard earned cash. For those of the opinion that the best way to support Forest at this time is by getting behind the team, cheering as we did last year, still parting with our cash and carrying on as if everything is acceptable, then I am sorry, but you are wrong.
This not only sends a message to Doughty that we are perfectly happy with mediocrity, but more importantly, allows him to continue running his business at the same comfortable level it is now at. There is no discontent, no financial incentive for Doughty to work harder, to spend more of his cash. As a good businessman, why would Doughty want to take such a large risk when he has no need to? It is up to us, the fans, to create that need.
Doughty's silence, Doughty's refusal to spend any of his cash, Doughty's ability to say one thing to the press, only to do the exact opposite, all depend upon our reaction as fans. If we are to voice our discontent at matchdays, if we are to withhold our money from the club, then the current situation stops being comfortable. Doughty will be forced into action, into a real attempt at taking our club, his business onto the next level.
As I said, I don't want Doughty out. I want Doughty to be forced into keeping his promises, I want him to know that the standards he is setting for our club are not currently acceptable, I want him to use his skills and his resources to achieve what he is capable of, what his business is capable of, what our club is capable of.
