The ‘I have something to say about Forest that doesn’t warrant its own thread’ Thread

I'm sure Ross Wilson used to hold a similar role at Huddersfield some years ago when they were fairly successful. It wouldn't surprise me to see them trying to tempt him back in an attempt to turn themselves around again since they've gone to complete shit in the last few years.

The Wilson leaving bit didn't really surprise me - you'd think the Edu restructure might leave him out of things. I was more surprised about the Grabban link. I didn't expect an explayer to be in that kind of role but I suppose Edu could play a bit.

29 May marks the 40th anniversary of Heysel. 39 people died and 14 Liverpool fans were convicted of manslaughter. Gets overshadowed by Hillsborough and lead to Forest and all other English teams being banned from Europe competition for 5 years.

Norwich went balls-out for the League Cup that year, for the European prize, at the expense of league form . Won the cup. Got relegated. Got f**ked over for Europe.

I have no idea what Wilson does, I assume he looks after the general welfare of the players & making sure all the departments work together? - I know Dourekas did that before he left & assume Grabban would take up his role?

You can understand Wilson going somewhere where he is given control of a club.

Dourekas on linekdins job role was:

As the Director of Football, my role creates a vital connection between the boardroom and the team operations, ensuring the seamless integration of the sporting department within the club's overall structure. The primary responsibility of the director of football is to safeguard the medium to long-term interests of the football club. Rather than focusing solely on short-term objectives, such as short-term wins, I aim to establish a solid foundation for the club, in which all departments complement each other while contributing to the long-term success and growth of the organization.

Wilsons:

There has been transformation of the football department, driving leadership, culture and modernisation to re-established a historic club in English football in the Premier League again after a 23-year absence.

There has been modernisation and physical upgrade of our training centre infrastructure, with focus on building and leading all key support staff structures to ensure long-term success for our first team and our Academy.

We have integrated our women’s football into the club, transitioning to a fully professional team with comprehensive support systems.

Neither of them really an old school fans definition of a Director of Football or Sporting Director, more of somebody that just helps link things together rather than player recruitment.

Wilson oversaw the training ground improvements- building extended, new kitchen, offices, ice bath, new additional gym in separate building - and the Athletic say he has a key recruitment role working with the Portuguese head of recruitment and George Syrianos - global director of recruitment for all Marinakis clubs.

He was proud of the gritty “industrial” gym they’d recently installed at Forest vis a vis the luxurious spa feel at Leicesters new training ground. Thought the latter made the players soft.

Essentially, he’s just below CEO level but higher than everyone else below CEO level at the club (barring Nuno) with a massive focus on recruitment and improving the infrastructure for the first team, academy, and women’s team.

Edu won’t be working directly at or just for Forest but will oversee all of the owners clubs.

Also The Athletic has done an estimate of how much £ everyone in the PL got in the season just gone (PL prize, TV£, tournament£)

Just found time to open the link and it’s a good piece by Mr Storey - well worth it. A good read.

Thanks for posting the link.

Also - wtasf is going on with Jackie Chan? Is it some tick tock piss take? Is it a hoax? Is it photoshoppery at its finest?

Or does the utter legend that IS Jackie Chan have some affection towards the Tricky Trees??

Not sure he had much choice in it, but it’s enough of a reason to put Jackie Chan on the celebrity reds list in my book. Fast forward to 9:00 mins in.

In other news - it's 3 years ago to the day that we got promoted.

And what a 3 years it's been.

We've come so far it's quite staggering.
Begs the question, where will we be in 3 years time?

Back in the Championship or back in the Champions League?

Don't know, but I predict silverware between here and there.

Yes, what a watch. Couldn’t stop laughing - Jackie Chan is so funny.

Great that he picked the signed Forest shirt over Burnley and Watford 😃
