Team taking shape?

With Davenport, Whittingham and Bertrand apparently on the cards our team is really starting to take shape and is starting to show some strength and depth. I'd be very happy with just these signings but one more CM and a Striker and i'd be over the moon.

Miserable git, and proud.
I like your optimism, but come back when we've signed someone.

Ones on trial (irony?) the other two haven't been confirmed by anything approaching offical-dom.

Plus, with all the players missing pre-season matches with injury, the only shape the team currently has is a formless gloop.

I apologise (well, as far as signing Bertrand is concerned)

Davenports also training with the club at the moment, I understand there is no rush on the side of either party and he is able to take his time.

To be honest, with Ryan Bertrand now signed, what we really need is a left-midfield player.

We already have depth in Centre-midfield (remember - the bonus of signing Bertrand means we free-up Chris Cohen!) and Billy wants to play more 4-5-1 (or 4-2-3-1 or some such permutation...)

I can see Cohen being deployed as that left-sided midfielder now, unless Whittingham turns up...

Just having a left back to balance the team properly has made me much happier about our prospects this year. 6 months though... makes you wonder if the Shorey debate will rumble on and on!

**** Whittingham, sign Chopra and play

Cohen McKenna
Raddy
Earnie Dexter Chopra

With Bertrand and Gunter bombing on down the wings.

Am I being greedy now? :D

We'll probably win the league now guys. If we could sign Whittingham to bomb down the left wong we'd be handed the title on a plate

We could still sign Shorey and play Bertrand on the left, it is his original position after all.

He's got the number 3 shirt anyway, he'll be our own Gareth Bale!

hahaha, left wong!!

I dont know why, but now the left back situation is sorted (albeit temporarily) I have sorta forgiven the AP for the lack of transfer activity..

and with westyorksnffc posting the likely pick of the current squad, anything else that we get is a bonus really. Whittingham + Pratley + Davenport + the Fin are all bonuses from now on I think..

The quality to challenge for promotion is certainly there, we can match any team in this division with our starting eleven. The issue is that we don't have the depth to maintain the challenge. Hopefully if Forest can pull off Whittingham, Pratley and Davenport we certainly should be targeting winning the division, if not then it would seem that grabbing a play-off place would seem more realistic.

Over to the TAP . . .

we have a very good team, it's capable of playoffs for sure. What a result, we ditch our donkey, replace him with Cohen, possible Whittingham coming in

Obvious I know, but comparing the squad to what it currently is and what it could be come September it will more than likely be the difference between Premiership and Championship football come this time next year.

GK Camp, Darlow
LB Bertrand, Bennett
RB Gunter, Moloney
CB Wilson, Morgan, Chambers, Lynch, (Davenport)
LM Tyson, (Whittingham)
RM Anderson, McCleary
CM McKenna, Cohen, Majewski, Moussi, McGugan, (Pratley)
ST Earnshaw, Blackstock, Adebola, McGoldrick

You can still count Smith in goal. I know he's on the transfer list, but we've not had any bids yet and suspect if Camp was unavailable he'd still get the nod over Darlow.

Gary

No wonder my post count..
There's been no word of any strikers. We're still pretty short on that aspect.

Everyone says that last season was turned around by our victory over Derby on 20th August but, in reality, we lost the next home game and didn't win again until Plymouth away on the 27th September - so lets compare what we have now with our team at Plymouth last year.

The keeper and back four are the same except at left back where we will have Bertrand instead of Cohen - not only an improvement defensively but freeing up one of our most influential midfielders.

In midfield we had Mckenna and Majewski, both of whom I would expect to play on Saturday, but we also had Garner (gone) and Tyson who can't expect a start considering the availability of Cohen, Moussi and Anderson.

Up front we had Blackstock and Adebola, who surely must be a sub on Saturday given that we have Earnshaw available.

Subs should be Adebola, Tyson, McGugan, Moloney, Darlow, Thornhill and one of the midfielders.

Add into the mix Davenport, who will surely be signed (?), and any other signings and we have nothing to fear from anyone in this division!

Here, here.

The "best XI" as it stands now is stronger than that which started last season; and with suspicions that others are to come in over the next few weeks, it could yet get better!
