tastey rumour I've just heard...

A. Trialist
Just heard a rumour from my brother in law (who's a burnley fan)...

Watford, Charlton and Southampton to go into receivership this week, and will lose 10 points each as a result. Watford will have 37 points, Southampton on 30, Charlton will be down on 19 points.

Wouldn't we all love that?

Fingers crossed lads :)

Sounds like wishful thinking but I do hope your brother in law is right.

Cant see that happening :(

Yes - that's true, but if I was Charlton and Southampton I'd seriously consider taking the hit this season rather than next. As for Watford, they might not have any choice if the decision is taken out of their hands by the people they owe money to...

three is unlikely though, I agree.

Charlton almost certainly would be sensible to take the hit now, start next season on a 'clean slate' - Southampton I'm not so sure.

Credit crunch? ;D

Would be fantastic if it happened but Charlton have nothing to lose by declaring their point deduction this season, if it comes to it.

Southampton and Watford, however, may decide it worth the fight this season.

It wouldn't be fantastic at all. Another sign that the smaller clubs may not be here in the future. I wouldn't be too happy at all if we stayed up in that manner.

I would prefer very much for us to stay up on merit, but frankly, I would rather us stay up full stop :(

I hope this is true

I don't mean to sound cynical but does your brother in law have a contact at all three clubs? It seems unlikely that he'd get reliable information from three clubs like that. I think we'll finish about Southampton and Charlton anyway so theirs wouldn't matter. I'd rather no clubs go into admin whether it affects us or not, it's just not good for the game or for the fans of those clubs. How would we react to going into administration? We're good enough to stay up on the pitch anyway... Not via the FA rules.

Not a chance! Charlton maybe... Watford and Southampton? Clutching at straws
Don't know if I'm right or not, but don't Southampton still owe sheds of money for their St. Mary's, because it was a loan agreement which let them buy the place and the interest rate is going to make the extra payments high, Watford, well, they had to quit building half a stand because they couldn't afford it.

I really f***ing hope this is true for our sakes.

maybe i'm being a bit selfish but i hope it's true although i very much doubt it , we've had enough problems of our own for many years to worry too much about other clubs.

I seldom agree, in vain I hope they do go into receivership, but on the other hand us staying at the cost of 3 hard working clubs feels like we'd be cheating in some way. It's the equivalent of some old lady having the only free seat on the bus stolen by Usain Bolt.

I've heard that we are taking a ten point deduction just for being shit. I hope that one's true.

well tbh were any of u moaning wen we got promoted last yr wen leeds got 15 points took of thm, if we go dwn i cnt see us cumin straight bk up so for tht reason i really hope this is true cuz i cnt see us staying up otherwise!!!

And in English?

Not really. It stops teams doing what Leeds did and waiting for confirmed relegation. All the deadline does is suspend the points deduction till the last day of the season. If the team is already relegated like Leeds were the deduction is taken next season. If the team is not already relegated the deduction is applied to their final total.

If teams think they will go down like Charlton for example, they need to do it in the next four days to stop it affecting next season. If any teams are going into admin, expect it in the next 4 days as there is nothing to gain by waiting.

I say sir, were any of you fine people in despair when Nottingham Forest ascended into the second tier, at the expense of Leeds, pip pip? If we do infact get relegated back into the dreary depths of hell, I can see us ejaculating right back up there for that very reason. I would so like to have this confirmed for me because I cannot see us staying up there otherwise, top top old bean.

...Apologies, I'm finding excuses not to sleep.

Night night!

From what I've heard there is a good chance of Charlton going into administration, doubts about Southampton and absolutely no chance of it happening to Watford.

That sounds more likely than the first post.
