Take it or leave it

So far this summer, it's been a fairly active and successful transfer window for the Reds' and with any luck it will become more so in the coming weeks.

Despite the current world wide economic recession, NFFC are one of the few football clubs with cash to spend and Forest Chairman Nigel Doughty hopes to benefit from the fact that most other clubs are skint. Doughtys' opinion is that it's a buyers market and he's out to make the most of it and aims to do it with a manager he can finally trust with his hard earned cash.

So far this summer Forest have brought in Adebola, McGoldrick, Anderson and Camp and all for comparatively little money (McGoldrick being the exception, at just over a million). Billy Davies has other names on his hit list, but they will cost more.

It was Davies' intention to have his squad assembled in time for the beginning of pre season training, but thanks to other clubs moving the goalposts, changing managers, or Chairmen praying for a bidding war, Davies has for the moment been left short of what he wants. Billy is a determined and persuasive man and has impressed Nigel Doughty enough to prize his hand off his wallet and to splash his cash. Whatever we might say about our benefactor, the fact is that he's backing Davies now to deliver the goods. Not before time we might argue, but it is being done.

Although it all seems to have gone quiet on the new arrivals front, the club is striving to bring in the players we need. Davies has seen our acquisitions panel in action before and knows they have a history in messing things up. It's with this in mind, that the club are now attempting to force the issue regarding prospective clubs letting go of their prized assets. Doughty knows the score regarding other clubs finances and knows they need cash, as much as we need their players.

Time is pressing and Billy's an impatient wee man. So in an effort to get the deals done, Forest have apparently issued the clubs with a get it while you can ultimatum. Doughty alledgedly knows there are no other clubs joining in with the player auctions and hopes to cash in on the fact that there's little or no money about. So, bids have been placed and the likes of Ryan and Shaw will have a little time to ponder on whether or not to accept.

We understand that offers are on the table to bring in Matt Mills (Doncaster Rovers £1.5m), Paul McKenna (Preston £800,000), Daniel Fox (Coventry £1.5m), Dexter Blackstock (QPR £1.6m) and Shaun Barker (Blackpool £600,000). All of those bids are for less than what the selling club values them at, but it's the best offer they're going to get in the current climate, if NFFC are correct.

We will have back ups, BD is not an idiot. He would not offer an ultimatum without having good alternatives in place.

The last club we ought to be messing around with is QPR the 2nd richest club in the world have no need to accept less than their value. On the other hand if correct about Camp's fee we can I just don't think we should be giving ultimatums to clubs like QPR for players we really need/want.

The thing with Blackstock is QPR's Owner apparently really dislikes him and wants rid like he did with Camp.

The thing with QPR is that they may be supposedly rich (on paper at least) but don't seem to be really throwing the cash around. Maybe they are looking for a manager they can trust. Makes a refreshing change compared to Man City and three of the so-called big 4 in the Prem. Of course, with the take it or leave it approach, the selling clubs will have a lower acceptable figure (like a car salesman). We have to hope we have sussed this figure out.

Briatore see's QPR as something of a plaything to be honest, and has spoken openly about his ambitions of running a "boutique club", somewhere for all the west london fashionable types to hang around. Frankly, if i was a QPR fan I would be thinking that he's less interested in building a club with premier league ambitions and more about building a fashionable brand. I can't think of anything worse and it is a real kick in the real fans.

Blackstock dosen't seem to me to be the type of player to match that image.

Tell you what, if we really are intending to sign those five I'd be well happy.

Add Gunter to that on a season loan (or preferably on a permanent move!) and I think I would go as far to say we would have had a sock-blowing off summer signing spree.

I personally believe we'll definitely get McKenna and Gunter.

Still think Lynch is up in the air as is a deal for Barker.

I've given up hope on Mills and I don't think Dex is coming at all. Why spend over a mill on McGoldrick if he was on his way?

I think we'll sign two more players, ones weve not heard anything about yet. Maybe a loanee from the Prem.

It certainly will be. An absolutely stunning summer if it comes off.

Even if it doesn't there can be no doubting the intent this year.

The only thing that dissapoints me with this article, is if has any accuracy then they are basically giving away what I would deem confidential information...

As far as I am concerned, i'd rather hear this sort of stuff mixed within a few threads on a forum rather than emblazoned on a site which is easy to access. At least with a forum you have put some effort to read this...

Again I think Vital have jumped the gun, and I truly hope this doesn't damage our credibility in obtaining new signings....

I've only known about the Vital site for afew weeks but i don't like the way they tell a story as the `truth' when it obviously isn't.
The flaw in the story is that if , for example, Preston turned our bid down, they know that if Forest haven't secured an experienced midfield general in the days/week passing, they are likely to phone up and offer 900k etc. The transfer game involves abit of bluffing as i can't see any of the clubs chairman going "oh shit, Forest have put a take it or leave it bid in for x player, i they sounded serious, we'd better accept it" they know full well if we really want the player, we'll be back with another bid! Lol :)

Not necessarily true :)

Coventry did something similar with Best last year, then there were the reported sagas involving Jones and Porter in January. What about Camp?

There are others. Forest are starting to develop a bit of a reputation as being 'hard nosed' in the transfer market, which other clubs will be aware of, Forest, if they say 'take it or leave it' tend to mean just that.

For example, on the list of named players, Blackpool have obviously accepted a bid lower than their valuation for Barker (from both Forest and Derby) because he is said to be in talks with both clubs.
