Love the fact that people are writing him off and telling us his heart aint in it when his sample size this season is... 85 minutes.

Gone are the days when we'd at least get to two games before doing that to a player it seems.
You’re talking to the wrong guy - I’ve been saying this for a year or more. Now that he’s not mobile enough even to get his scuffers and ricochets, and hasn’t been for a very extended period of time, I think it’s prudent to plan for a world without scuffers and ricochets. And mis-controls.

I'm going to be honest, limiting his contribution here to "scuffers, richochets and miscontrols" shows you don't really have any objectivity in your opinion, so I'm going to choose to overlook it.

It is funny how this time last year Wood was seen as a stop gap cover for Taiwo, and now Taiwo cant get the game time he needs because of the form of Wood.

Im of the view that if push came to shove that i would prefer to offer Wood a new contract for next season and that Taiwo was the one to leave. And im not saying this as a slight to Taiwo who i think when fully fit and playing is a huge asset for Forest. More that Wood is playing so well since he covered for Taiwo that i see no reason for that to change.

Also considering fitness of each player then keeping Wood just makes more sense. Then we can look for a new striker with Wood slowly moving to the bench over the coming years.

Its not just a random thing though. He needs to be playing every match for his good form to materialize.
There's just no way I can see that happening tbh, unless Wood gets injured.
This is the problem though, whatever his merits as a player and whether it's lack of fitness or motivation or whatever that's lead to his poor form we simply can't afford to write him off as we have no other options in that position and we could well need him

Thought he looked trimmer yesterday, definitely looks like the lack of pre-season has set him back.

Agreed.
Its always the problem with lone strikers. Either they are good enough for the first team in which case they want to play every week, or they aren't and then you have no backup if the main man gets injured.
I don't think there's a way around it unless you can find a young player with the right physical attributes and lots of potential to have as backup.

Of course, if Wood were to suffer an injury and Taiwo came in and re-found his form - then opinions would change as quickly as they did in favour of Wood.

That's football, I guess.

Don’t think he did much wrong, chased a few balls which made sense to, and could have been put in by Silva at the end (a tap in goal and no one complains).

Needs fitness. He’s getting 5/10 mins, that’s not enough to progress back at this level.

Just needs minutes and confidence, he’ll come good.

Just watched it back as I thought I must have missed something. When he came on, we were just sitting back and being compact. There was no need to press. On the two occasions where there was an opportunity to get forward, he sprinted to pressure the retreating defender and forced him to concede a pressure-relieving throw in. And on the second, he sprinted to get into a great position and Jota should have squared it. If he had picked out Taiwo, he likely scores and we all say how great it is to see him score.

There may be other issues. The main one probably frustration with lack of minutes. I think a few people have lost objectivity when it comes to Awoniyi.

Have to agree with this and Maxi, I must have been watching a different game as I thought he looked trimmer and sharper when he came in.

Tactically he was clearly told not to press high when the Palace centre back were in possession, we were one nil up with 10 minutes to go... A few of the balls that were played in his direction he chased down and bounced around the defenders. There was a moment he had the ball in their box where a couple of seasons ago he'd have got a shot away, but he clearly is lacking that match sharpness.

He was absolutely fine when he came on. Like another poster said, if Jota would have squared it and he tapped it in we would have all be saying what a positive impact he had made when he came on.

If Wood gets injured, Awoniyi is starting every game!

Giving him 10 min cameos is the right thing to do

I can't see Awoniyi moving on in Jan, even if we sign another striker
^ this in spades!
People have short memories.
His goals saved us in the first season.
Woods saved us in the second season (and are carrying on this season).
Taiwo will regain his knack of bullying defenders and scoring goals.
Be patient, people.

Exactly, too many fickle fans. Turn back to this time last year and we can't imagine getting close to winning a game without him in the team.

Could Cooper come in for him if he’s still in a job by January and we are safe?

Few million on a loan fee and a big chunk if they stay up?

If they stay up we get paid. If they don’t he’s hopefully been able to play himself into some form and either raised his value or proven he’s back in our first team picturw

*obviously would be dependent on us signing someone else

And I don’t think it’s fickle to question his future at this point.

I’m his biggest fan when he’s firing. He has looked unstoppable. But we haven’t seen that for about a year, and we have probably only seen 10-15 games of Taiwo playing at that level in 2 and a bit seasons.

When we do see him he looks miles off the pace and I don’t see that we can give him the couple of months of starting games he might need to find some form again. Last night he just looked like a player halfway out of the door.

If he is that bad, then how much do you think someone will pay for a striker who has only played well in 10-15 games?

A year is a long old time in football though, and I don't think anyone would disagree that Wood is the better option at this point in time

On form Taiwo is an absolute beast of a striker but there are genuine concerns as to whether we'll ever see that version of him again

Taiwo had approximately 14 mins. Not spectacular but seemed to do alright. Differing opinions on here re:future, which is fine-I’m on the fence as we don’t know what’s going on behind scenes with personal life, fitness, injuries etc-and then we have all seen what he can do. But it would be interesting to gauge Nuno’s opinions ans even if Taiwo was fit and firing is he the type of striker he wants? Taiwo was integral to maintaining our prem status and his raw attributes, power and strength were key-but as we develop as a team, hopefully towards mid table and beyond, possession becomes more crucial end it’s whether a different type/profile of striker is needed?

He was more of a spectator than a combatant for the whole 97 mins.

Will be forever grateful for the goals first season and the excitement at the start of last when he looked unplayable. Hope I’m wrong but he just doesn’t seem to have it now and didn’t work hard enough when came on yesterday.
If Wood is out I can see Jota getting picked ahead of Taiwo..

Thought he looked ok at first when he came on, chasing and trying to do things as before but definitely lacking match time which is to be expected after a long time out.
IF the injury is fully cured there is no reason why he cannot get back to form and challenge for a starting place but something, based on nothing, is telling me we won’t see the same player again.

Hope I’m wrong, but with us doing our best to sign another striker in the summer I think his days are numbered.

With my limited knowledge I think Nuno is looking for a more agile striker who can make darting runs opposed to a Big T type, but we will see who comes through the door at some point.

Of course this could be a load of BS :)
