Taiwo Micheal Awoniyi of NIGERIA!

I love this guy, that goal he scored against Southampton was fantastic and I'll never forget that goal against Arsenal. Morgz reaction to that goal just tells us everything.
The keep us in the Premier League goal or the full length of the pitch goal? (Guessing the former, but the latter was superb.)

Is he heading into the last year of his contract ? Might need to decide whether to give him a couple more years or not.

If i was one of the newly promoted teams, I'd be going all out to sign him from us. It'd probably take an offer of 15-20m? No brainer for a team battling at the bottom if you can keep him fit

Let's face it - as much as we like him and especially for his contribution in our first season back - he's just not good enough for where we want to be anymore.

If he's got 1 year left then i'd snap any clubs hands off for £15/20m.

Keep for me, doesn't strop, play his face or mope around if he's not in the squad - so attitude ✅️. Can be a handful off the bench, causes problems for defenders and can score goals ✅️. Won't be very expensive to keep ✅️. Still has something to offer, especially with no Europe as we can give the cup comps next season a really good go ✅️.

A fit and firing Taiwo really is a great asset to have. I don't think we'd have been anywhere near trouble if Postecoglu or Dyche had been able to see him as a viable option with the Wood injury. I can't really remember whether he has been injured most of this season, but using Jesus just upfront and somewhat dismissing Taiwo was a mistake (amongst many others)

He scored a great goal against Brentford in January but then presumably wore the wrong socks in training and so was not seen again under Dyche.

He's such a conundrum isn't he. The Taiwo of the last month or two, coming on, scoring and assisting and generally being a right handful, is definitely worth keeping around. The one that is not match-ready for weeks at a time for various reasons, less so.

Big T is a keep for me - but think he will move to get more game time. Coventry, Ipswich, Leeds or a few others should be looking to get him from us. I think a Injury free Big T is worth 15 goals a season

To be fair to Ange (not that anyone should feel they have to) he did pick Taiwo against Chelsea, everyone said he’d lost the plot, we lost, and he got immediately sacked.

Depends on the striker situation over the summer for me

Don't want to see Big T leave before another striker is brought in

Personally I'd keep him

You can't blame Taiwo for the defeat against Chelsea.
The eam were abject that day, playing Ange ball and getting ripped apart.
I’m certainly not. I’m just saying the narrative that Ange refused to play him when Wood was injured is completely false. Because when Wood came back from NZ injured he picked him straight away. There are many many other things to criticise Ange for but not that.

If Vitor carries on playing two strikers next season, he might get more of a look in.

Would we be happy with a Wood/Jesus/Kalimuendo/Awoniyi quartet next season, if Vitor decides he likes Kali in pre-season? It's not flashy but with things being settled behind the scenes, it would likely be effective.

Would love to see what Kalimuendo can do under Vitor

I think the way we play now would suit his game much more

Yes and Ange was pretty much lampooned for it on here with people saying he should be sacked for doing it.

Here are some examples:
Awoniyi Starting? What year is it? Get f**ked Ange he just picks names out of a hat, mate.

Fire him now I don’t care he’s a f***ing clown.

Wtf is awoniyi doing in that lineup, not being horrible but seriously.

Not sure about T being in the team, had forgotten about him to be honest.

Let’s see how he gets on.

Can only assume Ange is wanting the sack... Awoniyi! Unbelievable Jeff

Get the useless twat gone, at this point i'd feel more confident with ebby in the dug out than this chancer

Hutch, Kali & Bakwa not even on the bench.

Awoniyi instead of Kali or Jesus.

No wingers.

Wow 🤣

I won’t be joining in with the inevitable chants today but there’s zero chance I’m staying till the end of the game. Chelsea could have 20 players missing and play with 8 men and they’d win.

What an absolute joke that line up is, Murillo probably goes off after 5 minutes too.

Kid's not long been in a very serious condition and should be inched back into games... 10-30 minutes at the end of matches for a handful, building up to a full 2nd half in a "lesser" cup game or something.

But Ange goes and throws him in at the deep end in a high pressure, must-win game against a very tough side.

Borderline negligent for me.

So Awoniyi is suddenly ahead of the Kali, Jesus and Wood. Totally baffling.

If we lose, he's gone for sure.

There's no way T is prem league match fit, that's a statement if I've ever seen one LOL

Awoniyi starting, f***ing lol.

This guy aint got a clue.

Separate note, Awoniyi to score a hattrick and make me look like an idiot.

Baffled with that selection, Awoniyi not even had any match minutes since pre season, and if he thinks that mgw and T will be the goal outlets he is going to be wrong, And no Bakwa or Hutchinson, Just asking for it Imo

Zero goal threat, Zinchenko will offer no width as he will want to be playing centre mid with the other 4 players sat there. Neco will be marked out the game as he’s our only winger/wide man.

Awoniyi shouldn’t be playing in general after last seasons injury and even if he’s fully fit he shouldn’t be getting in the match day squad with the options we have.

Sack him today Marinakis.

That team is either inspired or a suicide note.

Just seen the starting XI. He's just throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks, isn’t he?

100%.

He hasn't got a f***ing clue.

We are struggling to break teams down and score?

Let’s play no wide players, no one in midfield with a goal threat and a striker who hasn’t scored in about 17 years.

Ange wants that juicy pay off cash

I dare say you can find similar from every time Dyche brought him on as well. Until he scored against Brentford and then didn't pick him again for some reason. Nuno didn't pick him in the squad at all of course. Luckily his story and our season's story had a happy(ish) ending. I'd keep him next season though there might not be room for all of Wood, Jesus, Taiwo & Kalimuendo/A.N. Other

I'm just happy I'm not in your list :ROFLMAO: I couldn't remember what I said at the time but I doubt it was good and no I'm not gonna check. Best left forgotten. The future is now.
Yeah the thing is at the time the comments were probably fair. He looked awful for a while, but you can never doubt his commitment.

The thing with that Chelsea game though was that Taiwo hadn't been anywhere near the side all season, apart from the opening game against Brentford as an unused sub, and obviously he wasn't in the Europa League squad

So it did come across as desperation from Ange to suddenly stick him straight in the starting XI from nowhere - no giving him a chance to play himself into some form with some appearances off the bench first (as Dyche and Pereira subsequently did), just wham straight in the side

It looked like a last gasp move from a man who had run out of ideas rather than someone who truly believed Taiwo could do a job

I just pulled a few from the matchday thread after the team was announced for a page or so. None of it was complimentary but there was a few comments saying that if it paid off it would be good, and how they wanted T to do well but that he was shot, mainly... It's the revisionism really. I think quite a few (myself included) were questioning what he was worth to the club these days, but that wasn't down to his ability or his determination just the fact he didn't seem to stay fit long enough to make an impact

I think the point is that largely speaking the same people who were criticising people for picking him then go back and criticise people for not picking him. It's the whole revisionist thing again where players who we sell or loan out or who aren't picked or who are injured get better over this time and then should be in the team.

I don't think it's contestable that Wood is our first choice striker then Jesus then Taiwo. But playing 2 seems to make more sense with the current squad, something I would have expected Dyche to try but then, he didn't have Wood for the entire time he managed us.

It did and it was, but it just goes to show doesn't it? We were struggling for goals, Wood was clearly broken, Jesus isn't really a striker, Ange turns to Taiwo...

He had no clue, we all know this.
