Taiwo Micheal Awoniyi of NIGERIA!

Mister beat me to it lol
He's expected to make a full recovery, and the induced coma was 'for his own comfort', which tells me its an extremely painful injury.

I don’t watch Sky or have X but has Gary Neville made any comments in support of Taiwo? Interested to know.

Haven’t heard or seen any but don’t be surprised if he turns it into a rant of Taiwo not being cared for properly ( which of course he wasn’t) but he should keep his nose out of it.

I’m still fuming about how Tawio was treated by the medical team. Anybody who saw and heard it knew straight away it was a bad one.

He should have been put on a stretcher, taken to hospital and kept under observation. No ifs, no buts, even if the player says I’m fine to go back on. It was the equivalent of running into a brick wall without looking or being in a minor car crash. The injuries alone tell you the story.

There are no excuses for the medical team. Their priority is the individual player over anything else but they failed him.
Totally agree. I was sitting /standing in the Lower TE when it happened a d was absolutely horrified by the force if the collision. It was obvious that he needed to ve got off the pitch immediately and treated properly, irrespective of whether he wanted to play on. Everyone around me was flabbergasted that urgent action wasn't taken to look after him.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this explanation.
There are significant risks in induced comas - to respiratory and cranial functions. It would be unusual to ignore these risks for the sake of comfort.

Yes came here to post that. Some positive news there. 👍

Of course, they still can’t resist blathering on excessively about Marinakis going onto the pitch, and it’s possible to read that article and get the impression he entered the pitch while the game was in progress, rather than at full time. But this probably isn’t the thread to discuss that really.

It’s interesting that when a player jumps for a ball and lands awkwardly they are straight on with neck braces, stretchers and the game is held up for what is sometimes ten minutes.

The same concern was not shown to Tawio and that is unforgivable. Players safety and health is paramount and above 3 points any day of the week.

It frustrates me as well, that we're constrained to having substitution 'windows' where we can make our changes, and, unless its a serious head injury, we can't do anything else.
If we'd have had the same rules as 'pre COVID' regarding substitutions, the entire dispute about bringing him off could have been avoided, and allowed the medical staff time to actually properly assess him.

Regarding our medical team, it does seem extremely odd that they allowed him to continue, however, I don't think they should have been criticised so openly in the club statement.

As for Marinakis entering the pitch, it's clear now that it had absolutely nothing to do with criticsing Nuno BUT was a build up of frustration with the handling of Awoniyi. I see that a few pundits have started to row back from their initial criticism of Marinakis, I tell you one person who hasn't, that weasel pitiful excuse of a human being - Gary Neville.

Expect our incredible fans to be singing Awoniyi's name on Sunday and laying into Gary Neville as well.

I get why head injuries get the focus - but, and this seems to be a new revelation to some, there are serious injuries which can occur on the football pitch to other areas of the body. It doesn't seem to be in the spirit of looking after players welfare to create a situation where players may have to try to play through a serious, potentially life-threatening, non-head injury.

Well it wouldn't as you could only have three subs so the situation would have been the same.

Just seen a quote on the BBC website the female AR said that she could not flag as she could not be sure it was offside. If that’s true that along with her ignoring or not noticing foul throws, she is not suitable to be an AR.

I didnt think there was foul throws, I believe part of your feet has to be touching or behind the line. It looked a foul throw as front of foot was over, but don't think any of then had the foot completely over the line

Not that I've watched it back to analyse but just something I noticed when our fans were angry during the match

Some are close but as you say absolutely everyone in that stadium knew elanga was offside by miles

I will add im not trying to berrate the lino as im sure she feels terrible the laws have caused this there too used now to letting it play out

Isn’t the law that caused a problem here the one about substitution ‘windows’? If we could have just made another sub, as was needed, the offside business and the ‘miscommunication problems’ wouldn’t have mattered.

I'll say what I've said before - it looked to me that the first goals throw in appeared that the throwers foot was on the pitch with his heel lifted off the ground.

Nobody could have known how bad the injury was at the time. The actual rupture may even have happened some hours later. For that, you can't blame the physio.

The bigger issue here is you could clearly see on the TV replay how big the impact was. He's a big guy colliding at some pace with a solid structure. I said at the time he could have done himself a serious injury.

The amount of time he was down receiving treatment, a qualified medic could have easily reviewed the footage several times and instructed that he shouldn't carry on and should seek medical attention.

Forget the fact that T might have initially wanted to carry on. Like with head injuries, sometimes people need saving from themselves.

In football and other sports, prioritising the win rather than player welfare is all too common.

All that needs to happen from this is T makes a full recovery, nobody loses their job and the sport as a whole learns from this incident.

With all the money in the PL, then surely they could have an independent Doctor on duty for each match. Going out to assess serious injuries for either team, with the final word being theirs.

It’s also very concerning that he wasn’t taken to hospital until Monday.☹️

I think this is kind of the key point. Nobody (well, certainly not me) expects a physio to diagnose a complex and deep-seated intestinal injury in 2 mins flat do they? But what happened after that in terms of due diligence, appears pretty remiss.

People were asking if the club had a doctor?

That looks like a profile of a club doctor who was/is employed by Forest?

It does, however, come with a caveat as to whether it is a current profile?
Yes, I asked. I was really curious whether we employ one at all (I assumed we did) and also whether they'd be able to tell that it was such a serious, potentially life-threatening situation there and then. The professional linked to looks like a top professional when it comes to the sort of injuries that usually occur on a football field, that's for sure.
