Taiwo Micheal Awoniyi of NIGERIA!

Nigerian journalist Oluwashina Okeleji has shared what Awoniyi has been doing this summer – and also shared a quote from him on his injuries.

He posted on X: “#NFFC striker Taiwo Awoniyi swapped party islands for Nigeria to recharge and give to the community during the off-season.

“The Super Eagle returned to Europe to step up his fitness ahead of Forest’s pre-season this week.

"Awoniyi admits: “I listen more to my body now.”

Seeing he had a groin injury, maybe don't listen too much to that part of your body mate it only gets you injured and with more kids.

He seems to be leaner in the pre season pics, if you look at his injury record it does seem to coincide with him getting married and putting on some pounds. Who knows he could be injury free next season

No comment on snapping banjo strings after getting married.

But I had noticed he seems to look lean on his return. And still a unit too.

Bring it on Taiwo...

Inetesting comments from Nuno today in the Post. It appears Taiwo got injured in the first training session of pre-season. Starting to feel like this could be a big season for him.

“He had a problem in the first training session of the week. Let’s see how long it takes.

"It was something in his calf. Unfortunately not (for today). Hopefully he doesn’t miss too much of pre-season. For all of them, it (pre-season) is important, and more so for Taiwo.”

Couple of Weeks™ would be my guess.

I've said for a while that we need to cut our losses with Taiwo. Whilst unplayable on his day, he's a complete biscuit and unreliable. We need another striker asap.
Yeah I’ve been saying it for ages too. Also, he’s not as good as people seem to think although when he’s on top form he’s a massive handful.

I wouldn’t sell him though unless we can bring in someone who could be about as good as Wood.

I think he's still a better overall player than Wood, and fits our systems better than Wood, and would score more goals than Wood if he stayed fit. And Wood is still quality. The issue is how many games will he actually play?

The problem with Taiwo is when he isn’t fully match fit he looks absolutely shit. Wood comes back from injury, you could drop him in for 30 mins or start him and give him an hour and he’d do ok and build his fitness up.

Taiwo in that same scenario looks like he’s never walked on his hind legs let alone ran on them. When he gets minutes in him and loses the ring rust he is immense. But he is so rarely fit long enough. He could be a £50m + striker and it is very frustrating. Hopefully he gets a bit of luck this season.

Provided we can get him fit and with good service, he's a 20-goal PL striker for me.

He looks lighter and in decent condition, so I'm hoping he has just been resting up over the summer instead of hitting the gym. If the niggles can be ironed out, he'll bother any PL defence.

I maintain he’s absolutely top drawer when he’s fit and firing.Genuinely one of
The best in the prem. He has given some world class defenders absolute fits trying to deal with him. He’s one of the few out and out strikers in the world who can take the ball to feet, run in behind and batter you in the air too. Defenders hate playing against him.

But he’s just never, ever fit. And can’t find any momentum as he’s just waiting for another injury.
