The goals dried up after Collymore left (Bryan Roy wasn’t as effective) and we flattered to deceive in 95/96
despite finishing 9th and luckily reaching the last 8 in the UEFA Cup.

Our strike force the following season was pitiful and we duly got relegated.

Bohinen was a loss but what ultimately killed us was not replacing SVC adequately.
Lee, Roy and Woan all got 8. We got 50 goals in 38 matches, only Wimbledon (55) got more of the teams below is, it was the same as Spurs (who came 8th), 2 fewer than Villa (who came 4th) and 1 more than Arsenal (5th) so it was largely comparable with our league position. The 54 we let in was quite high, but then again, one 7 goal and plenty of 5 goals conceded didn't help with that

We only failed to score in 6 matches (3 in a row losing 1-0 to West Ham and Arsenal and 3-0 to Everton in February) and 16 when we scored 1 (only 2 of those were lost, and including 3 wins) and our highest scoring was 3 (6x) and 4 (on the opening day beating Southampton 4-3 and a 4-1 v Wimbledon).

Bohinen's last game was 30/9 when we beat City 3-0, of the matches he played we won 3 and drew 4 (plus a 1-1 v Arsenal when he wasn't in the squad) which is 13 goals whilst he was at the club. From then until the 0-7 we also scored 3 v Bolton and 4 v Wimbledon and a 0-0 v Chelsea was the only time we didn't score. 23 goals of the 50 were in those 12 matches, which is an average of almost 2 a game.

I think it's clear that Bohinen leaving led to the goals drying up ultimately... but yes, we didn't replace Collymore either. Campbell was clearly the replacement but he only made 21 appearances (missing from early September until nearly Christmas, and then only playing 3 from middle of March until the end of the season) given Roy wasn't really an out and out striker in the same way. We still had the same players the season after, so it was clearly just a continuation of the 2nd half of 95/6

The Silenzi signing did us no favours either!

I think the Collymore exit meant a decline was highly likely,Alf-but Bohinen leaving as well was another kick in the nuts.
Collymore going for a British record amount made that fine in my book. I didn't want him to go, but when you get that kind of money for him, it's understandable. But Bohinen going for under a million, I couldn't stick that.

Christ almighty, remember when 7.5m was a British Record fee?

That is absolutely peanuts now. You would not get a youth-teamer for that today!

Made no sense at all. He had one good season when he was playing with Maradona, so we spent 1.5m on him, when the record fee at the time was 8.5. If we balance that with 120 for Ando now, he'd be costing us 20m or so. So it's a similar level f*** up as Kali, unless he turns his form around this season. At least Lucca was only on loan.

To be fair hadn't he been top scorer in Serie A? Which was a higher level back then

Marlon King was pure criminal scum & deserves to be hated but he doesn't fall into "best player you've hated" because he was f***ing shit
Apparently he was the right man to talk to, I have read, if you were interested in a low-mileage second-hand BMW?

He had not. Though he did get 17 a couple seasons before we signed him, which was good enough for joint 3rd (alongside Baggio).

f*** knows how though.
Silenzi played at Napoli with Maradona, but only for two seasons (90-91 and 91-92, making 39 appearances) and he only scored half a dozen goals there. Not really prolific. I mean, you could stick me in a team with a prime "El Diego" and I would probably bag ten or twelve, and my knees are made of cheese.

He moved to Torino in 1992, and scored 24 goals in 80-odd games for Il Toro, which isn't a bad strike-rate in Serie A, which is (one can assume) what persuaded Forest to go for him. But he was, undoubtedly, an abject failure in the English top flight.

Still better than Luca though ….

Maradona was banned for the second season.

I didn't mind Lars going to Blackburn for bigger wages. I mean it's not like he was Nottingham born and bred. He'd probably never heard of Forest til we signed him.

My knees are made of crackers. So we might have a chance of besting the best partnerships of the food threads of best partnerships. Even better than the cockney duo of Aim (ham) and Eggs!
