As nice as it is to see us upper middle table, I don't really like to study league tables until after Christmas when it takes shape and becomes more meaningful.

It can only take a couple of games, either way, and things can begin to look very different.

It's the highest we've been since we came back into this league though I think,so we can feel free to have a little smile to ourselves when we see the table in the newspapers come tommorow morning :)

Churlish as it may seem, as positive as I am this season I refuse to get excited about being 10th in the Championship, I want and expect better from that, not just next season but this season too.

I think we are now in a realistic position to start to judge Billy Davies competantly as a manager and what the season pans out....

A 'B' rating so far for me....

According to our very own Alan Fisher it is the highest we have been since 2003 :frantic:

The table certainly looks good at the moment, we are to be honest higher than many of us thought we might be?

I have seen real progress so far this season, let's hope this form continues, we look a completely different side to last year, and I can't help thinking that its the centre of midfield that is making the difference.

Last year, we'd have gone one down and lost; this year, we look good enough to score against anyone.

The Champioship is (yet again..) going to be the tightest division anywhere, and if we are there or thereabouts come mid-march, and can put a run of results together, who knows where we'll end up.

The team is improving all the time, even from the start of the season, and credit for that has to go to Billy and the players!

When I read the thread title, I thought Reading had beaten the team above us to make us Champions of the world.

After Christmas????? Bloody hell T.B.T. that's a long time to not be bothered :D I think it normally kicks in about 10 games into the season

I never said I wasn't 'bothered' and I wouldn't say that because it wouldn't be true. :-*

It's after Christmas that I take more notice of league positions and pay more attention to the movement of our opposition up and down the table. For the reason I stated before, up to then a couple of wins/losses can make such a huge difference in standings.

make that 2 defeats in our last 17 games and we did finish 14th.

Reading could be sweet for Nottingham Forest if they beat WBA - and Nottingham Forest beat Newcastle on 17th October. Such an outcome will see Nottingham Forest only 2 points behind WBA. Okay, Nottingham Forest might not find themselves 3rd after this game (especially if teams such as Cardiff maintain their winning streak) but they will be closing in.

As Reading are playing away to WBA, this will be a tough game for them - especially considering they lost at home to Middlesborough. They won away to Preston though.

Reading are near the bottom, it is pretty sweet.

Edit: Sorry - missed Antoli's similar pun, would delete but there's no option to do that.

We won 3 on the bounce in 8 days in August 2006 but when was the last time we got 9 points in 7 days ( if ever )?

And, whilst I am not complaining, let's not get carried away. A quick look at the league table and 10th is a big improvement but in 11 games we have played 5 of the bottom 6 but only 1 of the top 8 sides.

I don't know. I think maybe I would of feared Wednesday and QPR more than Preston and Leicester, and they are both above us.

42 24.04.1994 West Bromwich Albion home W2-1 2 75
43 27.04.1994 Derby County away W2-0 2 78
44 30.04.1994 Peterborough United away W3-2 2 81

ironically the last time it happened was the only other time we played peterborough away in the league!!

other occasions:

31 30.03.1988 Derby County home W2-1 4 57
32 02.04.1988 Liverpool home W2-1 3 60
33 04.04.1988 Portsmouth away W1-0 3 63

20 23.12.1984 Sunderland away W2-0 10 30
21 26.12.1984 Ipswich Town home W2-0 7 33
22 29.12.1984 Aston Villa home W3-2 5 36

33 25.03.1967 Sheffield Wednesday away W2-0 3 43
34 27.03.1967 Burnley home W4-1 3 45
35 28.03.1967 Burnley away W2-0 2 47

in fact in that last run we also beat southampton on 1st april, making a cool 12 points in 8 days. why did we play burnley home and away within two days? anyone old enough to remember 67?

Almost certainly, it was Easter - was there - 40 odd thousand at home for Burnley. They often crammed in a few games in a short time. Forest were on a run of 8 wins on the trot!
