Never a frown, with Archie Brown.

Don't let him take penalties.

So with the latest fantastic team performances, and individual player improvements, how many players do we think we require now? A few less than I thought previously.

Well we will be in the PL next year and almost certainly start with VP as manager. CL? who knows.

Bring back Ortega and keep Sels.

Sign a new full back. Savona can cover full back and cb. Sell Morata. Replace Murillo if he leaves. If not we probably have enough with Savona, Jair and Abbott as back up. If we think Abbott isn’t ready then bring in another vet.

Assume Anderson leaves so we need to go big on a replacement. Assume MGW stays. I’d be tempted to swap Dom (as much as I love him) for a better technical player) but not essential. McAtee stays (likely little value and he’s shown flashes) and Jesus can be used more in that 10 role.

Wingers - no idea. Could sack off or make a case for any of them. Certainly wouldn’t stand in their way if any want to move on including cho. Need at least one improvement

Strikers - keep wood and taiwo as 2nd and 3rd option (wood too old to rely on) Jesus plays more 10 but option too. Need a proper goalscoring first choice. Is that Kali? If not then sell him. Could have to spend big here if we want to kick on.

Getting a goalscoring first choice may need an awful lot of cash. According to the Athletic Tactics podcast only 5 players in the top 5 leagues in Europe have scored 20 goals or more. 2are already in the EPL Haaland and Thiago (includes 8 penalties in his 22). Trend towards multi purpose forwards.

The funny thing is, had Wood not been injured he might have been one that bagged 20

We're only buying another striker if we win the Europa and end up in the CL. If that doesn't happen there's no mid-week football to contend with next season and we've got three forwards who are all demonstrating they deserve to start games.

We do, but an important consideration on that is that the two of them that are out-and-out strikers are both significant risks in terms of injuries. I love Taiwo, but I wouldn't trust that he can start 19 games let alone 38. Meanwhile Wood has been out most of this season and by his own admission his knee still isn't right and will need to be "managed" probably for the rest of his life.

If we go into next season with just those 3 as options - we're taking a very big risk.

Agree, we need a 4th, the size of investment would depend on our circumstances next season.

that’s my concern too. Jesus has shown he’s not a lead the line player and better in the 10, Taiwo is so erratic and injury prone and Wood is still fantastic but too old to rely on. If we don’t bring in another or get Kali firing then we run the risk of getting bogged down in a relegation battle again.

CL or not, Marinakis will be expecting us to be competing top 6 next season again and there’s barely a chance in hell of that happening if we go into the season with a 35 year old Wood and Taiwo as our only two proper strikers

I think we'll be bringing in another striker regardless. The only difference will be how big we go. If we do manage to get a CL place then we'll go bigger.

Hope that this season has made Marinakis be more understanding - this season has been a dumpster fire.
4 managers, never again please.
We need a younger Wood or a better Kieffer Moore type player. Haji Wright from Coventry might be worth a gamble but think they would want far too much money for him.

I imagine EM will be aiming a lot higher, especially if we win the cup. When Newcastle qualified for the CL they spent £60m on Isak!
