Summer 26 Transfer Window

Very comfortable with Glasner getting max time to assess the squad before actioning departures

Similar with incomings. Patience will yield the best result.

We’re not top of the chain and have ambitious targets, which means we’re not going to be able to force a speedy conclusion.

I’m sure Mr Marinakis will act decisively when its an option with likely positive outcome.

To be fair though according to some reports Glasner himself has said we're after players in several positions.
 
As much as I would like some signings in ASAP looking at the market as a whole right now it is stale. Not much happening except the promoted clubs trying to do things.

I was listening to the latest 'Talking Reds' podcast yesterday and the guy on there went into a lot of detail on each player and their relative status in the squad, both in terms of playing and with SCR.

I don't know what his credentials are but he seemed to think the players that make the most sense to leave (loan or permanent) were:

Victor
Savona
Abbott
Bindon
Richards
Yates
Bakwa
Ndoye
Awoniyi
Kalimuendo

They're either not playing or are costing the club a lot in 'dead money' (his words not mine).

In the era of the 25 man squad all clubs will have around this number not regularly playing.

Very different from when we nearly won the treble in 77/78 with around 16 players.

Absolutely, the only way a deal gets done early is when all the planets align and there's minimal competition and even then it takes time with factors like timings for year end etc with the Anderson deal. Most of us have no conception of the myriad things in play and when people reduce it to, "pay a couple more million" they're living in a reductionist fantasy land. The days of meeting a clubs price and it's done are long gone, maybe at the Championship level it's more common still but not in the PL.

You look at a player like Bergvall, lets assume whatever the club's price is we can meet it in principle; but the player himself can sit tight if he wants to on a good contract at a club that's expected to be better than last season with a manager who hasn't apparently bomb squaded him. Add in a bit of the London lifestyle for good measure and maybe a partner who doesn't fancy moving out of London... whatever it is he doesn't feel an immediate need to move.

But he does have 2 potential suitors at present in Forest and Newcastle. Neither are the "size" of Spurs (whatever the Geordies might wish to be true) but if he moves he'll be on a longer contract which is good for security if nothing else, and potentially better wages.... but they aren't glamour clubs and can be considered a step down for an ambitious international player who wants to stay in the top clubs for his international place (you might also consider the managerial ins and outs as a problem). But lets say he's up for a move in principle, still its a potential bidding war and his agent will be just sitting fielding calls between us and Newcastle and the agent knows that with the Anderson and Guimares deals they both have money sloshing around. Neither's of a scale like Man City or Chelsea though who can just offer silly money straight out so neither will offer a "winning bid" with amazing terms until they absolutely have to (the window slamming shut) and even then the agent will just be calling the other club and saying "X has offered him this, you need to better it in some way (length of contract, signing bonus, playing guarantees, relegation clause, sell on fee etc etc"). And if there is a great bid the agent's first move is to sound out the likes of Villa, Brighton maybe Everton or a foreign side to hawk his player who is clearly hot property if he's got people chasing him for potentially £50m+.... And maybe those clubs would be interested but only if they sell player x but the deal's not done yet so watch this space...

At the same time we don't want to get into a bidding war and we absolutely don't want to be held hostage by an agent so we'll be having an option B and C in the wings who we also have to go through the same process with.. And then we're looking for another two or three players as well... it's actually mindblowing.

I do take your point but there is plenty of movement going on in the PL right now.

They do but with this new SCR in place clubs like ours can't really afford to have too many players on large amounts of money (which is wages plus amortisation) contributing very little. For example this guy seemed to know (?) that Bakwa was on a fair bit more than Hutchinson whilst costing similar amounts in initial transfer fee therefore from a Squad Cost Ratio perspective Bakwa is a more expensive player to keep around than Hutchinson and would therefore be the more likely one to leave.

Unfortunately once again it's a rule that benefits the richest clubs who can afford to have very expensive bench-warmers.
 
I had hoped we'd have got Diomande over the line by now, with a couple more signings at the end of the window. Cunha starts until the September international break, no matter what happens. Morato probably will be as well as Murillo hasn't featured in pre-season yet.

Keep the faith, chaps. Those in charge at the club have shown many times that they have Forest's best interests at heart.

Very true Norman and a brilliant achievement.

That has resulted all-too-often however in a situation whereby a lot of those players had/have various degrees of difficulty in walking in later life - I spoke with Viv Anderson when he visited the CG for the unveiling of the Robbo Stand, and he told me that once he gets into his seat, he's unable to stand to celebrate goals, and has to remain in it for the entirety, such is the state of his back. As for the ordeal of getting in-and-out of a car.....

Obviously, sports science and playing conditions have progressed dramatically since his day, but playing so many games with injuries and niggles for fear of losing your place and potential playing bonuses was was the significant factor. The modern practice of rotating players would have been regarded as laughable back then.

Good ol’ days Cloughie - though the ability to bring in new players to cover injuries mid season helped.

I believe that the late Henry Newton also suffered greatly in later life due to wear and tear caused by his footballing career.
