Who do you class as deadwood. The only player that I don’t think can contribute in the squad is Richards.

I don’t actually think we’ve got that much deadwood to be fair-the likes of McAtee,Bakwa and Ndoye had a slow
start last season but showed glimpses that they could yet be assets if Glasner can get them to raise their game and give them more opportunities (we may choose to move a player or two on though now he has had a look at the squad in pre-season).

My main issue is that we haven’t addressed (as yet) the central striker position-in my view we can’t gamble going into a brutal season with an ageing Chris Wood and injury-prone Taiwo Awoniyi as our main threats.

Also,I think we need to find a decent backup to Matz Sels in case the worst happens-I’m afraid John Victor
doesn’t convince me should he be needed for an extended run in the side.

The problem with them is that many of them don't appear to be a natural fit for Glasner's system - or that even if they are, there are 6 or 7 players all vying for one spot in that system (the second number 10 alongside MGW).
 
I'm surprised at those that think we'll be better/no worse than last season as it stands, we've lost (in terms of all the important stats) the best midfielder in the league, I think people may be underestimating the amount of work he got through in games and my logic doesn't compute that you can lose a £100m player and be no worse off. We need a "slot right in" midfield player, a left sided wing back and possibly a new striker as a bare minimum in my opinion, this I'm sure will provide progress, otherwise Glasner needs to do plenty of heavy lifting to make us better as we are

That's true, but the counter to that is that we're unlikely to be anything like as much of a car crash this season. We can joke about managers, but it's probable that we'll end the season with the same manager we started with, the one who had an entire pre-season to prepare the squad. Alongside that is the likelihood (imo) that at least one or two of the new signings who struggled last season (due to all of the above) will contribute far more this season.

Also,Europe won’t bog us down this season.
 
Saw it mentioned previously and can't find the post, but surely losing Ross Wilson will be having an impact here. I know we've now promoted from within (which I like and have no issue with) just that those now fulfilling those roles will not be as experienced in transfer negotiation and contracts surely. Edu was obviously also assisting (perhaps the wrong word) with transfers last summer. We've also lost the connections and contacts of our CEO who has also left. I don't think we can expect transfers to run as smoothly / efficiently with so much change and change in experience too.

I'm not too worried as we surely would have made certain assurances to Glasner to get him to sign in the first place, and we know that if necessary the big man will step in on bigger deals.

Only thing is Ross Wilson has gone to Newcastle and things seem to be even worse there!

Probably the most childish post on the thread. It's quite possible to believe that we already have a decent squad but to also want publicised attempts to get players in to go through. The failure to complete these transfers is the frustration. Not the thought that everything will fall apart if we don't.
 
I think there's been that many changes this past year, both in the managerial and recruitment roles, that folk just have to accept we need a bit of time for everything to settle down and fall in place.

Honestly, I'm not sure what people are expecting. This is mostly going to be a deadline day transfer window. It was obvious the second we took our time getting Glasner in.

And how's Newcastle's recruitment been since he went there...?

Football transfers have become increasingly complicated due to many factors (agents and super-agents, the Premier League cash-cow, Brexit, brinkmanship, club rivalries, Big 6 cartel, you name it). Transfers have been increasingly complicated and time consuming over the years as there are more people and more factors involved in negotiations now.

We always look for "saviours" or "sacrifices" - it's human nature, but there is no Messiah, unless he's called Brian and then he's just a very naughty boy or the greatest manager England never had (take your pick) 😃
