Summer 26 Transfer Window

We’re different definitely. The only weakness I can really see is Murillo’s injury.

We have adequate cover for start of season, and just need to reshuffle our attacking options as we have too many wingers not enough wing backs.

We don’t have any obvious wrong fits like Douglas Luiz or chaos in boardroom Edu etc
Erm we lost Anderson?

We can certainly make do with what we currently have going into the first game of the season, but it could well be season defining if we do that.

We've got four winnable games from the opening six, but in the same sentence we've got four banana skins too. What we do in those early games is likely to set the tone for at least the first half of the season.

And even if it doesn't, the difference between say 9 points and 2 points from those four games might be European qualification.

I really want us to at least get another wing back (preferably a left footed version) and a central attacking midfielder in this week. That would help enormously.

I would just like to acknowledge how the word "quibble" is quite simular to "wibble"

All depends on your perspective really doesn't it.

The Pluses:
Glasner
4 youngish, highish potential players moving into their second year in the club and who COULD kick-on significantly - Ndoye, Bakwa, Hutch, McAtee). Could add Jair to that bunch too, perhaps
Schlager

The Minuses:
Ando gone
Murillo struggling
Question marks over CHO and Aina in terms of fitness and ability to adapt to "the system"
Slow transfer business
Still the threat of a Spurs or United and coming in and ripping out MGW, Williams, etc.

I'm struggling to see us anything more than slightly ahead of where we were last season. The Glasner factor is a big unknown. You'd like to think that with 1 manager instead of 5, and that manager being him, that all other things being equal (which they're not with Anderson gone) we could squeeze out 10-12 more points?

I hope we can summon a strong end to the window.

This is a key point - 10-12pts extra would've been enough for a Europa League spot last season. Anderson is of course a big loss but IMO we're not desperate for new recruits this summer. A small number of good quality (first-XI ready) signings and we'll be in good shape.

Our pre-season has been about 10 times as good as last year so far, We just weren't as fit as Sporting, and that's to be expected as we're some way off the start of the season yet.

I'm not panicking. I want a few new signings, but I think even with the current squad we've got, we'll do better than we did last year in the league.

I also think that Jesus is going to contribute significantly more in the league this year now he's had a year to settle and a proper preseason to get up to speed.

saw someone post on twitter last night that if we look at the last 4 Summer windows since promotion, we've brought in a total of 41 players. Of those, 20 were confirmed AFTER the new season began. Interestingly though, our best season was the one in which we brought in the fewest players in the Summer (6) and only 1 of those joined after the start of the season.
Personally, I feel frustrated. I should spending less time refreshing X and more time riding my bike. What will be will be.
We actually brought in three after the start of the season (Morato, Ward Prowse and Moreno) and one the day before the season started (Sosa). Plus one of the others was two weeks before the start of the season. Of the others, one was a second choice keeper and two became first team regulars (although it's up for debate whether Anderson would have been a starter had Danilo not got injured).

The real point about that season was we went into it with a settled squad with few additions rather than spending most of August introducing the squad to each other, which is pretty much where we are now.

My concern is the same one struggled with for most of last season (and last pre-season), our poor goal-scoring return. We need a successor to Wood, and we need one soon. I expect the club aren't unaware of this but as we get nearer and nearer to the start of the season without a new number 9 we're in danger of repeating the same mistake up front as last season. Who knows though, maybe this could be the season our wingers and midfielders all discover how to score regularly?

This is people in general. My 65 year old mum is completely addicted to her smartphone.
My 84 year old mother keeps phoning me to tell me about the most bizarre things she's found on 'the Google'. I have to keep telling her not to believe everything she reads but she's now discovered AI which has notched everything up a few levels. I may have to take her phone off her for a while 😄

Oh dear... I can only imagine. My mom is 81 and her eyesight is really poor, and she absolutely hates that, but it's a good thing that she can't go on the internet and read what people write left and right. She'd believe everything.

I don't like the way this is progressing. We haven't cleared out any dead wood and every signing we are looking at seems unlikely to happen right now. I think we're going to lose out to other clubs on the players we really want and be left with the dead wood we don't.
