We're really going after some great, young players...

Is there a concern that we're essentially getting an entirely new team?! I have no issue with that but it'll take time to gel

I think that could be a slight issue, we’ve seen it before. We had little choice though given the number of loanies and there prices now (Spence, Garner, Davis).

That’s why I think guys like MGW and Neco are perfect, as they know some of our guys already. It’s also why time is of the essence to get them in advance of preseason

Yeah mate .. I'm with you on that. Thought I'd pose the question. No doubt at all that Cooper and Dane are going after the right players, and the players with the right attitudes as well.

Also the lack of time to gel didn’t stop guys like Spence, Davis, Surridge in particular hitting the ground running last year

One of the main things I’ve read about Awoyini is that he plays basically the *exact* same role as Davis did for us last season.

We don’t need ‘time to gel’ cos we’re not only asking players to play in their favoured positions, but cos we’re recruiting them because they fit the system and the role we need them to fit.

Very exciting.

I'm concerned by it but unless you've been building for years like Brentford, I think maxing out in the loan market and basically just getting a bit lucky and having a freaky one off of a season is the only way to go up in this era of parachute payments.

Yeah, agreed. And let's be honest - it's fun being linked to good players!

Far from an ideal situation, but if the deals we're after come off we'll smash the Championship the following season and come back stronger still

I think you are doing us a disservice. We are a good club to join with an excellent manager and young squad. Look at the two that have joined/joining us already.

The leap between us and clubs like Southampton is not that different now.

And as for Gibbs-White that all depends whether he signs a deal at Wolves, if he doesn’t then our woo’ing will go a long way.

The Athletic put us at the front of the queue for both.

Southampton are an established Premier League club, I think most players would go there over a newly promoted side.

MGW will leave Wolves as they need to raise transfer funds, but they will be wanting a bidding war that we don't really have the time to get involved with.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't see either joining us this summer.
I fall in to the category of Ashley here, last season and the ones before we've always been the big fish small pond. No we are a small fish in an ocean.

Allot of players will assume we are going to be in a relegation battle and will go down, they won't necessarily expect that of Southampton or other established clubs, making us the less attractive proposition. Should we survive then Norwich and Watford will be in that position and who ever finishes in the playoffs.

My bigger concern is that we really have very little room for error and every signing we make needs to be a slam dunk. I of course trust the club to thoroughly scout the right players but with all the will in the world sometimes it just doesn't work. And the sheer number of players we need (as well as the obscene amounts of money we'll pay) just sort of increases the likelihood of errors.

Whilst we think we're spending big 10/15/20m are not huge amounts to blow on a player in the Premier League and because of our situation we're relying more on bringing in younger players or players from abroad where you get more value...but where you also run the risk of a player having never played here and struggling.

I don't see any of our loan players coming back now to be honest which if that holds true means we're signing 8/10/12 players that may or may not work out.

Yeah I was thinking the same after the Awoniyi signing. Obviously very excited, but also wary of what we look like if he doesn’t work out. But that’s just me being full of nervous energy I think haha.

Have to have faith in the front office now - just nice that’s it’s not blind faith for once as we’ve seen the end product previously under this group

It is a concern but the reality is a lot of our key players were loans and a lot of the squad wouldn't cut it in a starting XI.

I think Forest are a very attractive proposition this summer. The entire bottom half of the Prem are relegation candidates no matter how “established” they are. Southampton have been dangerously close to the drop last two seasons and don’t have the positive momentum we do going into the new season. The media are lapping up the Forest revival and anyone paying any sort of attention to the mood around our club can see the potential that’s there to do something special under Cooper

Leeds are going to lose at least a couple of their star players and have to rebuild under a manager nobody seems all that convinced about since stepping into Bielsa’s sizeable shoes

Everton have a first team squad nobody wants to take off their hands and a manager that is yet to actually achieve anything

Brentford have an excellent model but not the stature of the rest of the league. They looked in trouble until Eriksson signed in Jan. They lose him heading into “second season” syndrome….

We kept pace with Fulham and Bournemouth under Cooper and seem to be looking the most ambitious of the three in the transfer market so far

we’ve been the victims of our own success regarding the loan players but you can see that we have been working on a plan for all eventualities. Still hoping we might see Spence, Garner and/or Davis though the door but more confident that we’ve identified upgrades or like for like replacements to suit our gameplan

If we as a fan base have learned anything from the last year it’s that Whoever lines up in the Garibaldi away at Newcastle gets our complete backing, at full volume. we’ve created something very special, that new players will want to be part of, and it’s going to take the mother-flipping Premier League by storm!!

I agree somewhat with what you say, but without looking what are the stats for promoted teams staying up?

Feels like every season 2 of the 3 promoted teams get relegated and then 1 "surprise" package follows suit.

The longer you are in the league the more attractive you look to me.

As we currently have so many gaps in the squad we need a high volume of players coming in. So perhaps can’t afford to blow a big chunk of transfer budget on one player, going to have to be coy and clever and balance quality signings with numbers to add more depth to the squad-tricky! Do people think Awoniyi will be our most expensive signing this season?

Any links?

Based on what I've seen they are quite different. Davis far more of a link man, whereas TA plays on the last line.

I don’t think so, mainly because I’m all in on Gibbs White so am manifesting.

Think we still need 9 players.
Starters: GK (loan), CAM (20mil), CM (15mil), RB (15mil), LB (10mil), CB (10mil) - 70mil

Bench: LB/RB (loan), ST (5mil), CAM (5mil) - 10mil

Give or take a £, that’s all in budget with £17m spent so far

I think Cooper signing a new contract would be contingent on how well we strengthen. They know how good he is and know better than we do what we need. I've no concerns that'll we'll have another significant chunk of quality coming in.

I still hope Villa will drop the asking price for Davis to something a bit more realistic. At ~8m i'm pretty sure we'd bring him in

He'd be a valuable asset to have in the squad, having someone available who can hold the ball up and bully defenders as an option could be massive for us in certain games. Especially with the new 5 sub change

I can actually see us buying a lot of lower-priced players than you'd expect.

They are clearly using the stats still, Davis and the new striker do both look to be quite strong physical runners, whilst they're never going to be the exact same player, it looks like his role in the team is going to be similar. They are looking already at the Bundesliga which is a cheaper market than getting the same player from the PL anyway, and the resale value will still go up.

Likewise Henderson has clearly been identified as "similar" to Samba in our playing style. Neco Williams is probably not too far off similar to Spence in that he's a strong runner, good going forward and quick defensively, probably has a better football brain and also isn't quite as strong.

With the loans going back we need half a team but we probably needed that anyway - very few sides go up and stay up without strengthening a lot.

I am currently watching MLS. Note to scouts of Forest---don't buy any defenders from MLS.
Note - these guys made Robbie Findley look like Robbie Fowler when in reality he spooned over from 50 cm

Issue being that unless we intend on playing with an extra forward, he'd be going from bench at villa to bench at forest.

I'd love Davis here for the right price mind, just a bit more difficult to convince him unless he's been told categorically that he's not even going to make the squad there, in which case villa should be taking whatever they can get.
