I doubt they are narrowing the search.

They have probably found a league which is of a quality they are happy with and provides good value. I expect we will get players from elsewhere but we seem to have a good knowledge of the Bundesliga anyway.

So far with the players we are linked with, there is quite a few question marks. Either players having never played in England or they haven't played much in the Prem.

I think we're missing a Colback-type Premierleague level signing. Someone that knows what it takes to get the job done at this level and bring the others along.

Awoniyi as our record signing will either be a Bryan Roy or an Andrea Silenzi. Henderson is a signing I feel confidence in.

Mix and Match Forest. Enough room for some of them to be misses with enough hits to allow us to be competitive this season. Still don't think we're off the endangered species list.

tbf germany is basically right behind the prem in terms of quality, don’t mind us filling the ranks up with Bundesliga players.

i also think dean fills that “prem” player role as someone who’s been there and done it before. not recently but i don’t blame him for being behind essentially the best keeper in the world lol.

20 year old Netherlands and Leeds winger, Crysencio Summerville..

Being linked by Leeds' 'The Atheltic' reporter Phil Hay, but it sounds more like Leeds want to loan him and I can't see us using a loan spot on him:

Fabrizio linking us now too, still seems an odd one to me:

I'd imagine he'd be a replacement for the likes of Silva, Lolley and Mighten (the former two I expect the leave and the latter would benefit from a loan spell somewhere). Could be a decent squad player this coming season with one eye of developing him for the future.

Collymore!

Thankyou Steve!
If we've seemingly passed on Zinks for £2m, then I can only imagine we're wanting 10+ players through the door of quality, plus squad players.

Maybe Zinks passed on us? Didn't want to sit on the Watford bench last year so why would he want to sit on ours?
Potentially yeah, but it sounds like we had the first refusal, so we decided against it. We could have reassured him about his first XI opportunities etc.

It just means we're looking for a replacement of better quality for that position too and, as you say, Zinks may not want to have been a squad player.

Will probably be a squad player at Oly.

Not sure what's gone on here, you've got to assume we just didn't want him at all.

That amount is what we need IMO if we don't want to be planning a trip to Preston or Cardiff this time next year.

For arguments sake let's say we sign the 4 players we're most linked with.

Awoniyi
Henderson
Williams
Niakhate

As a minimum I think. I'd probably throw in another full back as cover too and at leslast one wide man. There's absolutely no way we can be going into the season with Colback, Cafu, Laryea if he stays, Lolley and Mighten anywhere near the starting XI, there's one or two regular starters last season who may mot cut it either. It might seem harsh on some players but it's the reality of the challenge we're facing.

We have to accept that on paper we're probably the weakest squad to have got promoted in years in terms of the bodies we still have contracted. The job ahead is huge.

Some fair points, but I don't think we have to land all of them in this window. Davis and Surridge were two Jan signings and really help get us over the line. No reason we can't do similar again.

There are 8 fewer games is one possible reason... need to get the points on the board as early as we can.
Feb, mar,Apl,May... may be too late if we have struggled before then.
but we wont struggle... if we get the new lads in.

Before the Samba situation I felt we needed 8 as a bare minimum;

CB - Niakhate?
RWB - Spence, Williams, Kabore?
LWB - ?
CM - Maitland Niles?
CM - ?
AM - Gibbs White?
CF - Awoniyi?
CF - Davis?

On top of that you've got Henderson (GK), maybe another CB if LMS/Panzo go out on loan, definitely WB cover if Layrea is surplus and I'd personally like a genuine wide option for a potential change of shape.

Nah, bags of time to make it up from Jan. Look at our rise to promotion.

I'd sooner have players in earlier of course, but I wouldn't panic either.

We don't need to get every signing in by the first game of the season. As long as we have enough to put out a competitive XI by then, we'll be able to add whatever else we need before the end of the window. Plenty of time to get things done.

That's how I see it too, but add a backup to whoever comes in as primary attacking midfielder, because sure as shit it's not going to be Joe Lolley.

There's an awful lot of work to do to get players in, without even thinking about all the players we need to move on as well, of which there's still quite a few: Taylor, Silva, Cafu, Lolley, Hovarth and maybe even Colback in the sell pile, with MBE Soh, Panzo, Mighten, Ojeda and any of the current U23's also maybe on the loan pile.

We're going to end up with 15+ ins/outs in total I reckon. It's busy.

How many teams have had a mare up until Jan and then signed the players necessary to keep them up? Genuine question as I have no idea

If we're in a mess in January the players we want won't come to us. They'll look and see a club on the way down, who only made it to the Prem through the play offs anyway. We need to get the good players in now to avoid trouble.

Good points and plenty of time still but I disagree on just needing a good 11.

If we only have a competitive 11 then when it gets to 60 minutes and the other team can bring on 5 fresh premier league standard players to push them over the top. We will be in trouble every game.

We need to take teams by surprise over the first 10 games and get as many points on the board as we can!

I don't think the 5 sub rule will change too much outside of the top teams who have world class players on their bench. Any team that changes half its starting XI during a match is pretty much throwing anything resembling a game plan out of the window. Making so many changes probably does more harm than good to a sides cause IMO.
