Strikers

I think everyone would agree that one of our highest priorities during the summer is to sign a striker. We are unlikely to be able to afford or attract top names with proven PL quality so who is out there, who could we realistically attract?

I’ll start the ball rolling with Zan Vipotnik, currently at Swansea.

Kali prob doesn't want to come back but id Imagine he could do well with Igor behind him.
What about that Esteban Lepaul guy in france?

How much would Undav cost, Strummer? P

anichelli at Strasborg is a tall lad but thats probably Chelsea's player.

Would Patrick Schick work in this league (could we afford him lol)?

I like the look of this guy, a really wide variety of goals there. He caused us real problems when he came on against us in the league cup too.

Vitor will want to have a look at Kalimeundo plus no one is going to drop the amount of money which we will be tempted to sell, early anyway.
Would Kali want to stay in general tho? Feel like we burnt that bridge.

You can't say that with 100 minutes of Premier league time split over 9 matches.
I think we've seen enough to realise his attributes and style of play aren't going to work at this level.

He is small, he is not particularly quick, he is a good finisher but to show that he will need the opportunities to come to him. Most PL centre backs are too big or too quick to give him the space to run behind the defenders or to play on the last man to get the advantage he needs there.

Players like Tarkowski will just stand their ground and he won't get anything from them and the more mobile CBs like van der Ven (provided he isn't in the ch) will be able to cover whatever position he can get himself into.

Look at the players who score in this division - including the one we have, and that Norwegian guy... they are good finishers, but that's a pre-requisite to be a striker in this division, like being a good shot stopper is basics for a keeper. They are also tall, fast and strong, so they can occupy the big central defenders rather than feeling like they're running into a brick wall.

The closest comparison I can make from seeing him play for us is Defoe. But that is paying him a compliment, and I don't think that even Defoe would be effective in the current PL, or not as much as he was in his era. He will be fine alongside a big striker in a 2, where he can exploit the space the big striker is getting off the opposition, but we can't afford to play that way as much, plus Wood is a similar type of player but obviously much bigger so more successful at it.

We saw what he could do in the EL, but to be fair to those teams, they would struggle to stay in the PL, except probably for Porto and maybe Midjyttland who would be probably a bit like Brentford.

I'm not sure even Vitor putting him on a PIP like he has done with some of the underperforming players would help because he just isn't of the standard required...

None of us truly know unless about Kali he's given time and more of a chance than 88 mins. Shipped out by a seemingly short sighted manager before any opportunity to show/learn/grow. Not even a full season, let-alone 2 or 3. Defer gratification. Let us take a proper look.

Considering the way we played under our early managers, I'd give everyone a clean slate and not hold any definitive views.

A good manager is very important, he can get results with limited players and a poor one can ruin good ones.

Happy to be proved wrong but I really can't see anything in Kali that would make him effective as a PL striker.

Literally no successful current PL striker has his playing style or physical attributes.

Honestly though. If Dyche hadn't loaned him out and he hadn't scored a few in the Bundesliga, where we got Niakhate and Richards from...

He scored a few in France and Germany. There's only about 3 decent teams in both of those leagues combined. Most of the rest are CH level.

This really does seem like a player who is injured / not playing / loaned out / sold who is simply getting better in the eyes of fans the longer they don't play for us.

Truthfully, I would like him to come good for us but nothing has convinced me that is possible. Whereas we can see in Ndoye that he has something, and he had output at the start of the season in terms of G/A, and is fast, has skill, has ability to get into positions to contribute. McAtee even has good passing vision and can play but is slight. Bakwa is a good runner and can put a ball in from out wide as can Hutch. If we say these players have flopped, so far, we have seen what they can do in glimpses and see it can work in the PL. From what we have seen of Kali, for us and other teams, what is there? At least with Sangare he had illness and injury issues but we knew he was a good passer and tactically broke up play well when he was at PSV.
