It was a pleasure Stefan, will always remember when you consoled an opposing player after pens. Top lad.
Real shame we couldn't keep.It was a pleasure Stefan, will always remember when you consoled an opposing player after pens. Top lad.
It was a huge relief, especially towards the end of the season when an injury to Sels (and he had a few niggles) could have led to us having to play some key games without a competent keeper.Would only realistically get to keep him if he was being signed as number one - which we can't guarantee with Sels.
Was nice to have two top quality keepers though, if only for a short while.
I said if it wasn't for his height he would be a world class keeper.I heard someone once say, maybe even on here, that Stefan Ortega was basically a world class keeper in every department aside from his height.
I'm inclined to agree. He made everything look so easy
Perhaps doing Angus Gunn a disservice there. We didn't see much of him, and I don't think he's amazing, but for a second or third choice we could have done worse, he does have plenty of experience and will be at the World Cup with Scotland. (Although, there's perhaps some debate there over whether he will play or whether it will be Craig Gordon). It was a huge relief, especially towards the end of the season when an injury to Sels (and he had a few niggles) could have led to us having to play some key games without a competent keeper.

Almost certainly your quote I was thinking of then. Was definitely on the money. He's got everything else.I said if it wasn't for his height he would be a world class keeper.
Not far off. He's 43.I'm glad we didn't have to find out Statto.
Is Craig Gordon still playing? He must be about 45![]()
The funny thing is I was actually exaggerating thinking he was actually maybe 38. I can't believe he is that age and off to a World CupNot far off. He's 43.
Amazing that he's still playing for more reasons than just being an old codger (in footballing terms). He basically retired after leaving Sunderland in 2012 due to suffering from a couple of awful injuries and was essentially just coaching for a while. After his injuries seemed to finally clear up, he got given another shot by Celtic in 2014, won loads of stuff and here were are, nearly a decade an a half later and he's still playing and going to the World Cup.
Football's a crazy game sometimes.

Yes, a bit like Sam Hutchinson who was a decent player but had terrible luck with injuries first off with his knee and then I think a year or two back he had a minor heart attack after a play off match...Not far off. He's 43.

Unfortunately he wants to return to Germany.I assume he’s currently a free agent so if the rumours are true that Sels wants to go back to Belgium (I’m not sure they are) then we could do worse than bring him back.
