Stefan Ortega

He was frankly brilliant last night, kept his goal well, distributed the ball excellently and marshalled his back four.

I mean, I love Matz, but Stefan won't make me worry about the Forest goalkeeper.
I love Sels -- he's been a mainstay of all our progress. Without his calming influence we'd be back in the Championship.
But last night I started to wonder whether Ortega isn't an even better keeper. He was superb , not just in his shot-stopping bit in his masterly control of his area. He seems always to be alert to the next thing that's going to happen -- and that gives all the defenders a real injection of confidence.
It's a great choice to have but I think Ortega deserves a chance to be our No .1

I have no idea who is the better one of the two and so who deserves the place as No. 1, but I do know that we are lucky to have two top keepers to help the cause. Always seems odd to rotate the keepers for Euro games when they are probably the guys who need the rest the least (note to keepers; I know you work hard, too), but I suppose the back-up keeper is the one who sees least football during the season, so it's fair to give him the games out of the Premier League.

One thing I do know, please don't switch the keepers as the indecisive England managers did, back in the day.

Keep him and divvy-up duties. Ortega against high press teams, Sels for all others.

I've said this elsewhere. I just feel more confident with Ortega between the sticks, Sels is a great keeper but too indecisive in the area.
I'd offer Ortega the 1 shirt to keep him and let Sels try to take it off him

Sels has been great for us and he's a brilliant shot-stopper. But Ortega feels like more of an all-round modern keeper -- much better movement off his line and better with the ball at his feet. Would be great if we could keep both but it may be hard now we don't have European football to offer Ortega.

Regardless of who each one of us prefers style-wise, the fact is, without Euro football, we cannot keep both next season, and the 2 no1s IMO can never work for a club like us. We're not City and, as my all-knowing husband very succinctly put it, Ortega is a luxury GK for us. Especially when there are other positions in the squad which have not even had adequate quantity, let alone quality, of cover over this season. Goalies can't be rotated all the time. We'll end up having a disgruntled player on the bench and a waste of wages. So, the club has to decide its priorities there and go forward with what needs to be done, but both can't stay.

I like Ortega a lot, he has some qualities like anticipation and positioning that I appreciate a lot in GKs. And he's been mostly very good in the games he's played for us. But if him staying means that Sels goes, I know who I'd rather have at Forest next year.

I still think it makes sense to keep Ortega on a free and sell Selz which would help, even slightly, with PSR.

Ortega is no downgrade and judging by Neco Williams post a few weeks back the players would love it if he stayed as well.

Ortega over Sels for me.

We really need to sort out this back up keeper issue we've had. The last 6 months has been the only time since promotion that we've had two genuinely good keepers. Other clubs seem to manage it, even Wolves had Sa and Johnstone.

Sa could more than likely be a viable back up option this summer

The 6 month contract was weird, to put it mildly.

I suspect Ortega only wanted to play for us as a stop gap and will therefore leave the club this summer.
