Stefan Ortega Moreno

Timothy Pope

Just another roll of the Dyche
Remember him being in goal when we played city last season (or maybe the one before) and he kept us out with a worldie

Now this would be a really smart move. Very good keeper from what I've seen of him -- competition and long-term replacement for Sels.
While I agree that we should be looking at succession planning with Sels at some point - Ortega is only 7 months younger, so probably isn't the man for the long term.

You might give Ortega a 2 or 3 year deal which does protect us from Sels being out of contract in 2027.

I thought the logic behind not extending Sels' contract in the summer was that he's 33, now why would you give a newcomer of the same age a longer contract, when you didn't give that length to someone who was already a first team player for the club?

Also, why can't this wait until the coming summer anyway? Surely Gunn would've left by now if he really felt he needed a move? Can't we just get a younger guy and revisit this after season's end?

Did Sels want a new contract?

Gunn will be away, seems inevitable

They offered him one in any case. They added an option to extend which is on the team. Ortega can't be considered more long-term, anyway, though, being almost the same age.

As for Gunn, I haven't read any rumours whatsoever about him leaving since probably the last international window, when he said so in an interview.

It was in the FA cup game in April if I remember correctly. Made up for almost gifting us a goal by giving the ball to MGW earlier. I think it was in the same game.

Bugger -- for some reason I thought he was late 20s which is okay for a GK. But you're obviously right: not much long term promise there.

Yes can't see him just dropping into starting in Europa, we will be targeting to win the competition and a single error could end up resulting in being knocked out.

Only way would be if we get comfortable of relegation in the in the Premier league but then the short contract means why would we even look at artifically introducing him. Just seems like a back up in case of injury, but an upgrade on the recent Brazilians.

He's a keeper I've signed constantly on FM.

As for Ortega, seems like a low risk deal for a keeper who can be trusted to step in if necessary. No brainer really.
