Standard of Referees

Sick of VAR now. It’s getting to the point where we’ll stop celebrating goals until they’ve pawed over it for 5 minutes and given us permission to cheer

I can accept the decision today but I tend to agree about being sick of VAR. It's not just the fan experience but that contentious decisions impact most games. PL results and ultimately end of season table are mostly dictated by VAR calls that have no consistency.

I have no confidence that the table is based on merit anymore and that's fundamentally wrong.

Perhaps we should stop celebrating goals in protest; Sky Sports would soon be concerned enough when the big moments in games are met with apathy in the stands to put pressure on the powers that be to bin VAR (or at least get it stripped right back to actual CLEAR AND OBVIOUS errors that can be spotted within 10-15 seconds rather than the current intense scrutiny of most goals).

My Mum doesn't celebrate the goals very much at games these days until they're confirmed because she's come to expect them to be ruled out for something or other - it's quite sad really.

The VAR manifestly was the reason we lost though and that’s a simple fact. You can argue about “deserve” or not of you like but that’s for all the other threads.
In 1 minute of the 95 or however many we had the ref made a decision that would directly affect the outcome either way. In the other 94 minutes we just didn't do enough.

It's a cop out to come on here blaming the ref after we served that up. Perform better and take the officials out of the equation.

If that amount of contact is enough to be deemd a foul and enough to overturn a goal then you should be giving a foul every 10 seconds.

Just like the Spurs game, Neco was fouled in the box before it, no penalty. Jesus was fouled in the box after it, no penalty.

Nonsenical, inconsistent officiating as usual from the professionals.

Probably in the wrong thread if you aren’t interested in the standard of refereeing today.

Playing at 5:30 so the TV can fill their schedules is absolute pants.
today's ref was a feeble-minded oaf.
I might as well have stayed home and not wasted a few hours of my life watching that abject capitulation by Forest and by the Referee.

I’m more worried about the standard of our home performances for the last 18 effing months than I am by the refs. We were garbage today. Why so slow? Why no attacking patterns of play? Why no earlier changes? We’re relegation candidates again if the home form doesn’t improve.

I'm about done with football now, when you take away the unbridled joy of celebrating a goal there really isn't very much left.

Personally I think we were good for a point today. This doesn’t mean we played “well” of course because Coventry are f***ing rubbish, frankly. I think we played like shit. None of this has any any relevance whatsoever to the performance of the referees though or the soul sucking shitshow that is VAR and the fact that it’s ruining the game. Snatching a equaliser near the death, whether deserved or not, used to be one of the joys of going to the game and VAR has taken that from us. And then when you come in this thread to vent about it you get a bunch of joyless husks telling you that actually we shouldn’t be complaining because the team fell so far short of their lofty expectations. Totally irrelevant. There are plenty of other threads for that.

I thought the ref was fine today. I hate VAR and it should be binned immediately, but the final decision wasn't wrong.
I don’t understand this. He reffed the whole game by letting little things go, persistent fouling was allowed with no bookings. Which is fine, I’d rather have that to be honest. I hate the soft shit given constantly. But then for one decision in the whole game he went back to the soft shit bollocks. It’s either all or nothing for me. You can’t ref a game by a standard apart from one incident.

I thought it was the right decision today, but agree VAR has sucked the life out of the game.

When you can't celebrate a last minute equaliser without waiting for the text to appear on the screen you know it's wrong.
It’s not that for me though. Maybe there was the slightest nick which allowed the player to spend three years falling over, but the rest of the game was reffed in a different manner including at least one foul on a Forest player in the box. If VAR are getting involved they should be getting involved consistently and refs should be giving fouls consistently.

Different standards apply inside the box and they have done for as long as I can remember. It's one of those things about the sport.

Cov weren’t great and it wasn’t a masterclass like Sky seemed to be saying. Had one chance gone in we’d have gone on to win I’m sure. We played fairly poorly but still should have won the game. They are awful and will go down. This sort of thing happens all the time.
