squad togetherness?

What with all of the posts in anger over the last 24 hours im not sure this will get the attention it deserves, but ive decided to put down my thughts anyway.

Yesterday I noticed something which, I want to say shocked me but thats a ittle strong, I was more baffled about it. What im talking about is the lack of togetherness of the squad. 3 situations stood out. the the 1st was in the 1st half and Heath made a slack pass which led to Derby eventually getting a corner. Now I have played for a mens football team with younger players in it and if one of them makes a mistake its normally the captains job or senior players jobs to pick him back up and make sure he doesnt dwell on his mistake. Our players didnt do that at all yesterday, there were numerous mistakes being made by both young and old players but at no point did I see any kind on communication between the players, no picking players up, no pats on the back, the only player i saw patted on the back by our players was Commons.

the 2nd thing that baffled me was Perch's hand in the penalty, it had petulance written all over it. Dont get me wrong, i thought it was harsh because the contact was minimal but unfortunately there was no need for any contact off perch. My friend an I thought it was basically his pissed off attitude getting the better of him.

the 3rd thing that gave me the impression of a lack of togetherness was the body language after the 3rd goal. only Breckin and Wes were making any effort to get the ball back quick and actually look like they wanted to make an impact.

I know I go on abit but I wanted to put my thoughts across, I dont post very often but when something really annoys me I like too.

oh and the only person for me who can come out with anything from the game is Wes Morgan, head and shoulders above the rest which wasnt hard considering how badly we played.

Fair points. I think everything you pointed out stinks of a lack of confidence that seems to have been drained by Davies.

We've been lacking leadership for a long time. That's exactly the captain's job.

We have one man and one man only fit to wear the armband and that's Ian Breckin. He was the only player yesterday I saw belting out instructions, and motivation and he must feel like an absolute idiot not being captain behind Perch. Perch does nothing whatsoever in the way of leading the team.

For me this needs to be addresses ASAP, and Tyson or at a push Earnshaw should take on the role of vice captain. To not give it to one of our few senior players is an outrage.

I think there is less togetherness now than under CC. It's just something I feel.

I agree that he's the best that we have, but I've always thought he's a crap captain (still too quiet). We've not had a decent captain since Bartman?

ive gotta say i think brecks should be captain, and the only reason i think hes not is his age, and he probably wont play every week. Even with that, id still have Cohen as captain over Perch.

My first post

The Derby game is the first game I've attended in years as I live away from Nottingham

Before the game I had no preconceptions about players, formations or style of play

My conclusion....The midfield we have is shocking and was totally outclassed by the men from Derby

Perch is not a Captain. Absolutely no way. Not only did he needlessly concede the penalty but he missed a sitter at the other end from 4 yards out.

Game should have been 2-2!!!!!

No ball control, no presence no passing ability. Not a captain

McGugan...overatted and uninterested

Anderson...unfit and lightweight

Its the midfield that makes or breaks a team

Its the midfield that needs sorting

you need to go to a few more games, before you make conclusions like that about players like anderson..

Anderson is a lightweight player and he was unfit.

Don't see the problem with his observations.

Ando, when fit is undoubtedly one of our (well not 'ours') better players but Saturday wasn't his day.

Agreed, Ando is lightweight and he took a while to get his confidence and find his feet in the team after his groin/hamstring injury and I'm sure he hasn't had a knock on the arm that he badly broke only a few weeks ago so I'm sure his confidence will be low.

Once he's had a few knocks and bangs on the arm and it holds up then he'll be back to his counter attacking best.

my biggest worry is that mcgugan and perch may as well have not been on the pitch. those two have been central to everything we have done well so far this season (what little there is) but now look totally out of form.

I think it's about time a genuine leader took the armband. As far as I'm concerned we only have two genuine options. You either give it to the experienced professional that is Breckin, or to the workhorse who sets an example every game, Cohen. My preference would be for the latter, but then I've no idea of what sort of a character he is in the dressing room.

Good post Woody-I agree with most of what you said. I did think Earnie played well too though, although had he been fitm, he would have out those chances away :(

I think it depends what kind of captain you want. You could go for the Roy Keane type, in your face and loud or a Dvid Beckham type, quieter and more inspirational than anything. I myself would like to see Wes given a chance with the arm band, i think he is the right age to be player that the younger lads can look up to, hes a local boy and as someone stated before he was giving encouragement that I didnt see.

Perch is suspended for two games now isn't he? Billy will need to pick a new captain so the opportunity is there to bring about more leadership on the pitch. It's got to be Breckin for me.
