Sporting quote us at 64-66 points, the 10th highest and a couple of points above Derby and Leicester.

Most interesting is their opinion of Newcastle, only 5th highest and below Ipswich and the Blades.

Thinking of selling Ipswich and Derby myself, neither do much for me.

i'm i stupid if i dont this stuff

Can someone please explain this?

Basically the quotes are a prediction on how many points a team will get in the season.

Punters can either buy points if they believe the team will get more or sell if they think they will get less.

The higher the quote the better that team is predicted to do by the compliers at Sporting Index, who are probably the sharpest betting minds in the game.

If it seems confusing just look at the order of the teams.

They think we will finish above Derby, but outside the playoffs

The bookies are rarely wrong! However, I believe 8th is about right for us above Preston and QPR.
Since its usually so congested up there, anywhere between 10th and 4th is a distinct possibility.

They're often wrong at this stage of the season - they're rarely wrong overall because they adjust their odds as they go :)

Serves as a good, unbiased indicator though, even at this stage...I noticed in the last 2 weeks we have shortened from 25 down to 16 or even 14/1. Lets hope those odds keep on shortening once we start playing football!

Aye, it's a good point.

I do think our spending which is at odds with many of our peers might be making them carried away/just making sure though.

My dirty little secret is that I work for a bookmaker.

Forest have been well backed with us, not a single penny for Derby.

Think Sporting are accurate though, they take millions on that market so any errors cost them a lot of money.

I don't take an interest in this stuff - you win points on the pitch and that's the end of it. Bookies are generally on the ball in terms of the decisions that will lose them the least money, but they're an ever-evolving business, that's why everything's so tight and speculative at this stage.

Right now, I wouldn't back us. I genuinely believe a new quality centre back could be the difference between mid-table obscurity/relegation battle and a top half finish/push for the play offs. Playing Wes and either Chambers or Wilson against the likes of Derby with Porter and Hulse up top is asking for trouble.
