Somewhere good to eat near the City Ground

I'm coming down for the Bristol City game on Saturday with my father-in-law.

Can anyone suggest somewhere decent to go for a meal beforehand? I was thinking of going to the Larwood and Voce but have never been there myself... :snack:

Might be worth booking if you go to the Larwood and Voce, seems to get very busy in the restaurant although they do bar food. 8)

If you want pub food the TBI does good meals at decent prices. You'll need to get there early to get a table though as it gets quite busy leading up until kick off.

The grub I've had at TBI has been average at best ... just your standard pub stuff, I had a lukewarm pie with shit gravy and soggy chips.
Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's dire.

There are a couple of Indian places nearby, I've tried the one near the hairdressers and that's decent enought.

Went to Larwood and Voce the other day for a work's lunch. Good quality food.
It's not gonna fill you up, but it is tasty and well presented and its a well kept pub.

Failing that, there's loads of really nice places to eat in West Bridgford, which is about a 15-20 minute gentle walk from the City Ground
(depending on which stand, and where abouts in Bridgford you go)

Drinks are very expensive in L & V.
Fire And Ice is worth the walk around the corner in West Bridgford, the pizzas are gorgeous.

drinks are probably the same price in both l&V and fire & ice

both are very nice, l&v is closer but gets really busy before a game

The Stratford Haven does good bar food, and decent ale too. It's kind of become our pre-match haunt of recent times.

My Mum is a fantastic cook. Lives on Pierrepont Road, Lady Bay. Just tell her Anatoli sent you. I think she's doing pork chops on Saturday.

Larwood & Voce is really nice. If the fish and chip special (£8.95) is on then i recommend that! decent service, decent food, good pre and post game atmosphere. Plus it's at Trent Bridge, what more could you want?!

I've heard the fish contains so much mercury it could kill you.

in my opinion.

£8.95 for fish and chips? What is special about it to make it cost that much?

I don't mind paying more for a good meal but that sounds expensive for fish and chips.

The Monkey Tree in West Bridgford (opposite the library) do an all you can eat breakfast for £6 until 12 if your getting in early. Failing that I've never been disappointed with the food in the Southbank

well it's at a restaurant, rather than a chippy, and the fish is good, despite Anatolli's wild claims of mercury! It's beer battered as well. I only suggested it as it's the only thing i've eaten there!

Pizza express down towards Bridgford on Central Ave is always a good shout too

The cob shop on Pavilion Road is awesome, but possibly not the the sit-down eatery you crave :D
