Money could be the ONLY reason that this deal goes ahead. At 34 he is hardly joining with a long term view is he.

Hop across the Trent Sol and you would be at least able to keep some of that respect you have earnt throughout your career.

"Eriksson is hopeful of pulling off the biggest deal for a player in the history of the world's oldest football league club by landing Campbell."

More proof, as if any were needed, that the NEP knows nothing about football or about the history of this city's clubs.

I think this is probably comparable with Lawton. I can't think of any other deal involving Notts that comes close to either.

I guess this will involve a massive signing on fee equivalent to 100k per week as League 2 has a wage cap doesnt it?

I think the cap is a proportion of turnover, which despite the slightly inflated crowds will remain low at Notts, yeah. Unless Munto are 'paying' shedloads for conferencing facilities and whatnot.

It's based on last years turnover though when they were getting an average gate of about 4,500 so won't be very high.

There are plenty of workrounds though, Campbell for example will be hired as a player coach and will get paid about 10p a week for his playing contribution and £50k a week or whatever it'll be for his coaching.

Other players will have massive signing on fees, 500% wage increase on promotion, huge playing bonuses and if they can get away with it daft things like a bonus for arriving to training on time.

I say this as someone who's happy to see Notts do well.....I don't see how an old defender can justify the type of money he's going to be on. I'm happy to be proved wrong though and perhaps the wheel won't fall off the wheelbarrow after all.

Pancho's is a terrible, terrible chip shop.
Must have changed since 25 years ago - I was sent weekly (Friday's of course!) to get the family's fish'n'chips. Used to be a well-fit bird (daughter of the owner) who'd always give me extra large portions!!

Lawton was easily a bigger signing though, he was an England striker at the height of his powers. Sol Campbell is 34.
