So.. onto next season.

Gary

No wonder my post count..
Yes, we're out of the playoffs. Yes we're not getting promoted. Yes we're all upset.

Let's look to next season. The CCC is one of the best leagues in the world IMO. We've looked much better than most teams this season, both financially, physically and emotionally.

Let's also look at the teams likely to be in next season. Who do we have to worry about?

Hull? They'll be docked points I bet. Portsmouth? Will probably continue the fall if they don't get expelled first.

The only team we really have to worry about is Burnley. No Newcastle. No West Brom. I bet your bookies we're the best team in the league right now.

So... if we continue where we left off. Get another proven striker in. Get a decent Left Back as we keep meaning to do.

We have Gunter, we have Majewski, we have Anderson. We can build a team ready for the premiership.

Please delete this if you feel it's pointless. If not, let's make this the most optimistic thread on this board today.

Let's collate a non-negative list of non-emotionally charged, realistic and sensible points of what our team have to do next season to get promoted.

Let me hear a hearty

YOU REDS!

Leeds ans Norwich will be strong and riding a wave of confidence. Whoever doesn't win the play-offs apart from Cardiff who are financially dependant on promotion. Middlesborough will be stronger, Sheff Utd I think will strengthen and be a real nasty force again. I think Swansea may surprise a few people also.

Can I just say, I'm not overly upset.

We all knew this was a season of consolidation and not promotion. Yes we got close, but had we been promoted I fear our team were not ready. Billy said it all along and I still maintain he was correct. We had a good crack at it, it didn't come off. Onwards and upwards, a bit of strengthening in the summer and we can safely aim for Promotion to the Premier League.

This was a season not to forget, the longest unbeaten run away across all leagues. The most amount of home wins on the bounce for 30+ years. The performances agains Newcastle and West Brom. Forest have risen from the ashes of lower league football and I fully expect us to push on next season.

Well done to the players and management team, you did us proud this year, let's take break and move on! Next season will be bigger and better!!!

Had this discussion last night with Eddie.

We have the chance to beat Derby, twice.
We have the chance to beat Leeds, twice.
The teams going down from the Premier League are either financially screwed or have Brian Laws in charge.

We have a young team (!) who should improve, hopefully with a couple of key acquisitions.

The Premier League are welcome to Blackpool and their beach, Cardiff and their fans, Leicester and their, erm, crisps.

Looking forward to seeing what we can do in August. It was a great season, some great memories on the way.
You Reds!

It's not going to be plain sailing like you might hope. It never is.

But, what are we missing? On yesterday's evidence, bite in midfield, we weren't winning enough possession there. We need Perch out of the side. Get rid of one or two of the crapper players and bring in others.

WHAT WE DON'T NEED! Season tickets that say "we're serious about promotion", selling our best players, Gareth Taylor.

In Norwich's case a wave of confidence won't make up for the fact that they'll be relying on Grant Holt to get their goals...
To be honest mate I was disappointed we let him go. Calderwood was playing him out of position the last season he was with us, the previous season he was really good.

"round pegs in round holes."

This is all I want next season. Bennett will be like a new signing!

Looking forward to next season I just hope we invest a few quid again!

I would guess that Grant Holt has found his level in league one. The challenge for us is to confirm that we have found our level, pushing for promotion from this division. BTW - I'm not a great fan of playing deliberately weakened sides. In retrospect, perhaps Billy may not have opted to do this at Bloomfield Road in the league. We left players out and in effect helped Blackpool to build up a head of steam which they took into the game last night. It seems a pity that an inferior side will take its place in the Prem rather than us, but we'll get there ..........

I really hope we play you on a saturday and not a bloody tuesday night next season, so I can say hello pre match. :)

we have averaged 9 points a month this season if we can average that again we will have another play off chance.

I hope so too, so that me and my brother can go out on the piss in Sheffield before pouring ourselves onto a train home. Now the Wendies have gone (sob) that's one decent away day with a chance of a win gone.

QPR and Brizzle will be ones to watch next season according to my bro which is probably a sound bet. Maybe Leeds but you never know it all depends on what investmentss they make in the summer as in fairness Leeds have basically scraped through. Their fans think they are great because they beat Manure but they didnt exactly set League 1 on fire the three seaso they were in it apart from maybe the season they had points deducted

Leeds are like us when we were there, trying to go up playing good football.

I watched their last game and they played some really nice stuff. I think they'll be mid table at least.

Bristol City? No chance.

Surely Reading after their amazing run in the last few months are worth a look.

QPR are very hot and cold. I thought they were one of the best teams when we drew 2-2 with them first season back, and we were clinical against them this season, but they were still decent.

I hate it when it's a tuesday night-no chance of me getting there. Haven't been to your place in years and always liked it as an away day.
See you next season. ;)

And he will, because they play him up front, not at left back.

History must have hazed your minds - yes he was useless as a left-winger. But he did play some games up front, particulalry at the start of that season and was equally ineffective. He's tried twice and failed at this level, because he's an old-school clogger. I have every confidence, his third attempt will be equally failsome.

I can't see Burnley losing many of their players, I thought they played some decent stuff in the Premiership but just were awful at the back.

Reckon Sheff Utd, Ipswich, Reading, Boro will be pushing near the top too.
