Smudger signs new 2 year contract

It's just like making a new signing.

If we paid him a bit more, do you think he could back himself up?

Given a couple more years, he could become one of the best in the country.

Just one thing gripes me with him at the mo is how he doesn't command his area enough.

Excellent news...his contract would have been up at the end of this coming season I think...I was worried we'd end up losing him in a similar fashion to Clingan.

What I meant was, he is only young for a goalkeeper. Plenty of time yet.

Well, if rumours are to be believed he only just missed out on an England call up whilst at Southampton.

Good news.

I rate Smith up there with the best in our squad, so to have him around for a bit longer is excellent.

I had a really bad feeling that Blackburn were going to nick him as Friedel's replacement....though given how little some people round these parts seem to rate him I was probably alone in that fear.

I was rather relieved when they went for Robinson instead.

Seeing as Peterborough's 'keeper has been in the England set-up recently, I don't think he can site playing outside the Premiership as an excuse for not being called up?

I'd like to think it'd mean that he'd be in with a shout. I don't see why he can't at least make a squad or two, I personally rate him above Robinson. I wouldn't be so naive to say he's the best English keeper as I doubt it's true but who knows? He could still make it.

As someone said earlier, he's still young for a keeper.

If he was Paul Ince he'd have been called up by now.

It makes me wonder about Tyson. Have we offered him anything? We've three new strikers - Cole for only a year admittedly. I'm still not convinced he's in Calderwood's long term plans.

We offered him a deal apparently but he rejected it. I think we're waiting to see if he can prove his worth/fitness this season before we offer him an improved one.

He didn't. He was rumoured to be in line for a call up for that tour, but never recieved one.

Looks like your right, but I'm sure he has spoken about it ? Then again from what I remember he only mentioned training with them so it could of been a pre-trip decision not to take him !
