Paul Smith today pledged his future to Nottingham Forest by signing a two-year extension to his current contract.

The 30 year old goalkeeper is now committed to The City Ground until the summer of 2012.

Smith has found himself behind Lee Camp in the pecking order this term but he was still delighted to extend his stay at the club.

He said: ""I think it shows what the club think of me in offering me a contract extension and I was really pleased to sign.

"I like the way the club is going at the moment, our performances and results show that all the players are pushing each other to do better and that's no different with the goalkeepers."

Smith joined Forest from Southampton in 2006 and has since made more than 130 appearances for the club.

I'm a bit suprised, I thought he might push for a move elsewhere for more 1st team Football.

Good news, though.

Dunno what the OS is updating at 3am for, the web man must have had a late night!

Great news but very surprising, not so much that we offered him a deal but that he accepted it. I'd have thought he'd have been pushing for a move in January with Camp being firmly first choice as things currently stand.

I think it sums up the mood around the club, everyone wants to be a part of it.

Happy Days ;D

Very unusual ! I don't think the route back in is closed, but after a lack of footy I really thought he may fancy his chances elsewhere ! But, I'm pleased. A very very good player still and a great chap !

Would imagine he's really happy with being second choice as he's not getting abuse for being shit!

He's at least better than that dodgy middlesbrough keeper.

I think our current position probably has a lot to do with it , the feel good factor in the team. If we get promotion , he'll be a 2nd choice keeper in the premiership and that's probably appealing to him compared to the fact that he was 4th choice keeper at the saints when forest bought him.

I feel this is a future move with the view if we sorry when we go up we can sell him for a few quid rather than let him go on a free or if things go wrong we have good cover for a another year in this division

Indeed. This is very good news.

What we don't want is our 'promotion push' (and it still makes me nervous calling it that) derailed by letting Smith go in January, as he wants out, then having Camp bust his shoulder leaving us with some youngster in nets for the final half a dozen matches.

Good news, if he is needed in the long FA Cup run, good for him. Guess the door wasn't being hammered down with interest.

As a squad of players, it's great having such a player as back up, fantastic he is not getting stroppy about Camp being chosen ahead of him.

Maybe the plan was to use Camp for half the season and Smith for half, but that would be crazy.

Good news. I like Smithy and think he is a very good keeper, great that he still wants to be a part of this club and is a testament to his professional character.

While many people are saying they thought he might want to move in Jan, the reality is that no club that could offer him first team football will take him on because he hasn't had regular competitive games with us. I'm sure Rich will help me out here when I say that keepers generally need consistency and to get that you need regular games. He'd probably only be understudy elsewhere because of that right now and from his point of view it's best to be second choice at club that's clearly moving forward.

Well done, Smudge.

Does anyone else wonder if his signature left the box?

Just another roll of the Dyche
He was stalling on signing this contract.

Dotting the 'i''s was OK. He was struggling with the crosses on those 't's though

Good news, as Smith is unfortunately for him great back up for Lee Camp.

This is the best thing that's happened to this club so far this year.

The BBC are in the spirit of things, picturing him in a friends provident shirt and stuck to the post.

Billy also stating Paul can smell the money.
