He wouldn't look out of place playing alongside Carrick or Lampard.

He's a great talent but that's a little premature.

He really does have bundles of skill. Certainly seen an improvement in his game this season. Would be gutted if he left

When's he signing for Cardiff?

They say he's Dave Jones' first choice replacement for Joe Ledley, should Cardiff sell him.

:(

I'd be very, very disappointed if we sold him to a fellow Championship side.

He won't. Tottenham will come sniffing in first.

I disagree.

Whilst he may not quite be at the level of displacing them from their respective teams, I genuinely think he would be able to hold his own playing alongside them.

I doubt he'll be going anywhere if Doughty has any sense.

If he was to go now at £3m, you'd have to look at that as taking a £12m loss on him.

If we need to fill 2 positions with that money it's not a loss, as we have as full house in midfield.

Well, neither Chelsea nor Manchester United will be buying him so it's all theoretical. He's already been released by Chelsea once, don't forget.

The step up from where we are now to the top 4 is massive. Andy Reid couldn't cut it at Spurs and he looked far more comfortable at this level.

Not to slate him, you understand. He's an awesome player and he'll get better. Maybe one day he will be there, but if you look at the way players like Carrick use the ball it's clear that he has a lot of work to do to get to that level from the level he's currently at.

I think we'd be seeling ourselves short at £3m. If Cardiff can ask £5m for Ledley, we shouldn't be looking to sell for any less than that.

Did he start down there then? Very interesting indeed

Just using the quoted figures!

No, you're right.

The difference between Reid and McGugan is that Reid is the more 'dominant' player in the midfield. McGugan is a complimentary player, someone who basically gets the players around him playing better.

That's why Reid looked so comfortable at this level, and struggled at Spurs. He was used to pretty much doing it all on his own, and at Spurs, he couldn't do that.

McGugan is a passer of the ball, something that is universal. I would love to see him playing with better players around him. Hopefully he will get the attention of Pearce and break into the Under 21 set up.

As for being released by Chelsea, that was as a school boy. Lets not forget that we release Shaun Wright-Phillips, Newcastle failed to sign Alan Shearer and Roy Keane couldn't get a trial at any English club after writing to all of them - including Forest.

As I understand it, he left our academy for an (unsuccessful) trial at Chelsea before returning.

I thought McGugan was released as a first year pro, after graduating from their academy? In any case, it's by the by.

You're right, he has the tools to do whatever he likes in the game. He has that unrushed quality that can't be taught, he's so composed on the ball. It would be nice to think that, for once, we can hang onto a youngster that has blossomed at the club. I wouldn't sell him for any fee, even bearing in mind the massed ranks of midfielders available to us.

I think you're right. Keeping hold of these players is paramount to us building and going forwards.

I also think that Doughty/Arthur have engineered Forest into a club that doesn't need to sell players. If that was the case, we'd have sold quite a few already.

Doughty's a venture capitalist, don't forget. It's in his nature to sell at a profit, irrespective of the commodity...

The way I heard it McGugan started out with our academy, and when he first became tipped as a future star his dad thought that he could do better than Forest and took him down to Chelsea for a trial, after which he returned to Forest.

It doesn't really matter, but I'm sure he started out with us.

It's also in his nature to not sell something for 20% of it's market valuation....
