Shorey's Loan

Something is slightly puzzling about the Shorey loan. On the O.S it says that :"Villa have the right to recall Shorey at 24 hrs notice after the first 28 days of his loan with Forest".
Does this mean that Villa won't necessarily recall him even though they have "the right" to do so and if they don't will his loan continue "after the first 28 days" ?
More importantly, could this open the door to a permanent signing ?

I think it runs until the end of December, and then it is up to us to sign him in Jan.

On another note, has anyone seen his interview on Forest Player? I swear he answered every question with the same answer of "yeh, just see how it goes, I just want to get out there, it depends on the manager..."! The words blood and stone spring to mind!

It simply means that for the first 28 days villa cannot recall him - these are the rules of emergency loans and nothing to do with the agreement between the club.

After 28 days, if Villa need to recall him they can do so with 24 hours notice. This type of agreement tends to be standrd on emergency loans. Its unlikely that they will.

I haven't looked at the dates but its 24th Nov when he signed on, 28 days would take us to 20th? If he was recalled after that he'd miss one game I think before going back on 28th Dec.

Then at Jan 1 the window reopens and we could extend his loan for the rest of the season or buy him if both clubs and the player agreed that was the best step.

It's no so much deal specific as an FA ruling. If you look in their rules and regulations all loans must be for a minimum of 28 days so in this instance Nicky Shorey cannot return to Villa within 28 days even if both clubs agree to let him go back. They may be able to appeal to the FA on this ruling though.

As others have said it's merely a standard rule and would only come into effect should Villa suffer an injury crisis.

Think about it. An "emergency" loan is meant to cover injuries and suspensions (though we all know it's usually just a way of getting in a player earlier than we can "officially" sign him) but it would be a bif daft if Villa then had to use an emergency loan for a position where they have a player who can't play for them because he is already on an emergency loan elsewhere.

Im fairly confident, that providing he is a sucess, Shorey will be joining us permanently in the transfer window.

Daft yes, but also entirely plausible. What would happen if Villa had a left-back injury crisis in the first 28 days of Shorey's loan? lol

The loan started today, any recall could take place after the PNE game.

Villa can't make emergency loans. Football League only.

Yep, sorry that's what I meant.

The minimum duration of any Emergency Loan shall be 28 days and the maximum duration 93 days. The loan period is inclusive of the starting date and the finishing date. Emergency Loans may contain a break clause but only where that break clause is exercisable after the expiry of the initial 28 day period of the Emergency Loan.

I was impressed by his interview. He just wants to do his job, he doesn't act like any other cocky footballer who care about their reputation. He sounds like he wants to play no frills, honest football.

Just read his Mirror interview and it's difficult to guess which way it will go after 31st Dec.

Although he says it's been a nightmare at Villa he doesn't say whether he would want the chance to come to us after his loan spell (if successful) - he just says he's coming to resurrect his career with a chance to put himself in the shop window.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Nicky Shorey has told of his nightmare at Aston Villa after moving to Nottingham Forest on loan to try to resurrect his career.

The defender opted to join the Championship promotion chasers following a miserable 18 months under Martin O'Neill since his move from Reading.

He has dropped down the pecking order at Villa, has had to settle for a place on the bench and is set to look for a new club in January.

“I’ve gone from seven years at Reading, playing every week, and being called up to England to this," said Shorey, 28.

"It’s extremely frustrating as I started the season in the team, but the manager makes his decision and you have to get on with it.

"But I don't want to be just sitting on the bench and not playing. Forest is a chance to put myself back in the shop window and feel part of the matchday experience again because it's been a while.”

Shorey will be at Forest until the end of December and is set to play against Doncaster on Saturday.
