Shorey loan extension talks to start soon

Just put up on Forest Player.

Billy says hope to extend to end of season and talks are about to start about that.

Loan seems the way to go, if Forest fail to get promoted he can walk away, if Forest get promoted he can sign up for next season. Best way for Billy to do business now, Premier quality on loan with a view to sign up in the summer, promotion being obtained of course.

It's a good little bargening tool now.

Stay with us until the end of the season, if we get promoted lets talk some more, if we don't get promoted it put the player in the shop window a bit more, win win situation for both parties.

So Villa couldn't recall him if they needed to? I think some loanees cant be recalled by their parent club for long term loans, isn't it? Would that be one of those? If they did recall him it could leave us in a bit of a mess in the run in.

Warnock and luke young are above him in the pecking order it seems, so perhaps there is a chance we get him on a further loan.

I suspect he might be leaving Villa in January and he is good enough for a Premier League team so I would expect him to go to one. It would be nice if we could land him on loan until the end of the year at least but a player of that quality will come with a price tag that might be too much for our wage budget. Deoebds, I suppose, on how commited the board are to promotion this year.

And Bouma as well.

Similar situation hopefully to with Gunter last summer. They don't really want to sell him for a loss but at 4th choice in their position they may as well cut their losses.

Villa probably would prefer to sell him for a fee this January, rather than loan him to us for the rest of the season.

Plenty of Premiership clubs would be interested, whether they are willing to stump up the reported £3m fee is another matter though.

Surely we would of had an agreement in place that we had an option to extend the loan deal when it expired?

It makes me think that it's all been done and dusted and now all that's being discussed is a transfer fee being agreed on if we go up.

I don't think there was any agreement, just a simple loan deal for a month.

We can't 'extend' the current loan deal.

If we want him on loan again, it'll have to be a different agreement.

We have a habit of not letting go of players we have had on loan so I'm really hoping we won't give up on Shorey even if there is premiership interest

That's what they told us. ;)
i think you might be right , billy isn't really one for short term fixes and i reckon this initial loan was with a view to a longer term situation. let's hope so .

Good stuff, although you'd always hope longer! One must be realistic I suppose, although saying we would almost be in the automatic promotion places would not have been deemed realistic by many back in july!

That's because it was classed as an emergency loan and once the time has elapsed a new deal has to be struck up.

O'Neil won't want to be seen in cutting his own throat, so a months loan with a clause in it that reads "Can be called back within a 24 hours notice period".

After the month of January is out of the way and when the Transfer Window closes I would expect to see Shorey on another new loan agreement which will take him to the end of the season, then dependant on whether we go up or not a permanent agreement will be discussed.

If we do go up, one would expect Shorey to come in the summer - if we don't go up, it will be touch and go whether Shorey himself wants to play another season in the Championship or hope some Premiership side comes in for him.

From Sky Sports today :

9.06 Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill says he is not actively looking to sell Nicky Shorey, with the full-back wanted by Nottingham Forest where he has been on loan.

I'm actually quite encouraged by this
O'Neill said: "Selling Nicky is not something that I am looking to do at this minute and nothing concrete has developed.
"If there was an offer, I would sit down with Nicky and his agent to discuss it but I am not actively seeking (to sell him).
