Fulham left-back Nicky Shorey has thanked Nottingham Forest after they paved the way for his return to the Barclays Premier League on loan at Craven Cottage.

The 28-year-old was out of favour at Aston Villa but a short-term move to Coca-Cola Championship side Forest led to Fulham making a move for the defender during the January transfer window.
Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson has started Shorey in Fulham's last four games, all of which have resulted in clean sheets.
"I've enjoyed it," said the former Reading defender. "The games have come thick and fast since I joined here so that's the best way, to just get out and play.
"There's nothing worse than not playing. I really loved my time at Nottingham Forest and was looking forward to going back when this move came out of nowhere.
"It's all thanks to Forest for giving me the games otherwise I would still be at Villa kicking my heels. It all happened really quickly and it's great I could come back to the Premier League."
 
Well we were lucky to have a left-back of such quality on loan for the two months we had him. Don't blame him at all for going too Fulham, a good side with an excellent manager and European football.

If we go up then he will be a realistic target.

Adding it up, he was very happy to return, then had a Premiership option. I think if we are a Premiership option in the summer, we might have him yet.

Fair play and good luck to him, it was an honour to watch him wear the shirt. Happy ****ing days.

/edit Given that players read forums and certainly read this one (a fact many seem to forget in their idiot postings) I'd like to say Nicky, if you are reading, for the record, we'd bloody love it if you came back on a permanent contract. You are exactly the sort of left back we've wanted since, well, a very long time ago in my memory. You are premiership class and we can't blame you for taking work appropriate to your skill level. Should the opportunity arise where Forest can provide you with this, I can guarantee no set of fans would be happier to cheer you out at your first game, save for maybe Derby... but they are sheep shagging ****s so **** 'em.

He states that all four games he's played in since the move has resulted in Fulham keeping four clean sheets - tells you something doesn't it?
 
If he can stabilise that defence Portsmouth or County should hire him for their finance departments.

What he's done here, though is send out a message to unsettled Prem players that Forest is the club to head for, if Billy will have you. Bit of help from a friend.
 
He ****ing class. gutted he's didnt come back but here's hoping for the summer.

Well you've got to curse fate a bit really that somebody else came in for him :( Can't blame him though naturally.

Shows that he was likely to come back to us then until Fulham nipped in.

I would love to buy Nicky Shorey a beer and thank him for his contribution to Forest this season.

We are a stronger team than before he joined us and I believe we've learned much from his short spell as a Red. It's heartwarming to hear that he enjoyed his time with us and, as disappointing as it was for him to leave us, I wish him all the best.
 
Whilst over half the games in our long unbeaten run were without Shorey it wasn't until he arrived that we started to look like a really good side.

His obvious quality only served to highlight just how much we've missed having a genuinely good left back.

Does this mean that if the panel had moved a bit quicker and agreed on terms Shorey would be a Forest player rest of the season?
